I'm new and I'm on day 8

I used this forum to help me get to the stage I'm at now. I feel as though it has really helped me stay smoke free so after browsing for 8 days I decided to join.

I have been smoking about 20 a day for 5 years and I though honestly I would never quit. Last Saturday at 2pm I decided I would attempt to quit and see what happens. I was amazed when I got pass day 3 that I had managed to not smoke for that amount of time. I'm using nicotine patches to help with the cravings and they have really helped. Every day that passes I know I don't want to ever go back to day 1 or ruin my progress its the driving force behind my determination. I decided to confront all the situations that would of made me smoke like drinking alcohol and driving and I feel as though it has just strengthened my will power.

Well done James, and great that you joined the forum. It sounds like you're on good track to quitting, so any experience you could share will certainly be worthwhile for others just starting out. Also, if you have any questions, please read the older threads for heaps of information about how others have managed, and ask questions in case of need. There's a ton of information, and loads of others on their quit journey here on the forum.

Cheers,

Alex.

Hi James

Welcome and congrats on your decision. I used this forum to help me in the early days. I didn't post until Day 55! But I don't think I'd have got where I am now without the advice and support of the lovely people on here.

Look forward to hearing about your progress, and As ALEX said, soon you'll be able to help the newbies.

Best wishes. :D

Thanks for all the replies, I'm on day 10 now it has been the hardest day so far. I woke up looked around for my last nicotine patch but I couldn't find it. So I had to make a dash to tesco to pick some up. I could really feel an urge to smoke and it lasted with me all morning. I went to the shop and saw they had electric cigarettes and I decided to buy one. Although it wasn't a real cigarette I felt very guilty and chucked it away. Looking back now (being a few hours later) I don't feel as bad. It tasted really bad and I think I have confirmed to myself that I don't like smoking.
