I reckon it's a viral thing We have all been poorly here. It's been 2 weeks and is just starting to lift, a real heady cold. I have been waking at 3am and not getting off again till 6 or 7.
Lots of vitamin c, oranges and lemons.
Also maybe going to bed at 10 after a good wind down may help?
no tea or food 2 hours before, nice hot bath and into bed.
Just ideas hope you feel betterer soon x x ~Buffy x x
Hi andy, im also off sick from work today and feeling fed up so I know how you feel.
Get plenty of rest, drink plenty of fluids, have some orange juice and have a duvet day, then u can get up tomorow, have a shower and feel rested and refreshed, woohoo! (well, thats the theory anyway) hehehe.
try not to worry too much, keep plodding on and Im sure youll start to feel better soon.
i dont know if its viral the sleeping problem has been going on since i stopped smoking so nearly 8 weeks. it would be a delight to go to bed and sleep right through without waking. I not thinking about smoking at all, just not sleeping.

Thanks for the hugs much appreciated
Hi Shellfish,
You are just around the corner (well nearly) from where I work - Chippenham!! I too am waking up several times a night since starting Champix but I was never a good sleeper at the best of times. The dreams are so vivid I think they are waking me up. I'm on two a day (Champix that is!) so maybe it will be better once I drop to one a day?
i might give that like wise a try does that come in liquid or tablet form.
got appt with my vet 2morrow to see if he can suggest something for me to try.
I think its to do with the champix so problem wont go away till i come off them oh well heres to another 29 sleepless nights, i ve tried a hot drink and a good book that doesnt work. maybe i should try a hot drink and a good woman or better still a good drink and a HOT woman lol
The sleep pattern you describe is very common place when quitting. I've experienced every time I've quit irrespective of the method. This time is cold turkey. As a smoker I needed two alarm clocks, the first to partially wake me and the second to fully wake me. Now I could throw my alarm clocks in the bin.
You've probably noticed as well that despite your apparent lack of sleep you're wide awake before you need to get up and yet don't feel particularly tired during the day? It's the frustration though of constantly waking up when you just wanna completely shut off.
Can't speak for Nytol, but Sominex can be quite effective except that the price you may pay for a decent nights sleep is that you feel like you have a hangover until mid morning - too high a price for me.
Instead I take a 100mg 5HTP pill 1 hour before bedtime. It's a supplement you can get from most health food shops, though I get it cheaper from Healthspan.co.uk.
It seems to help me, though I still wake up very early, usually about 5.30am, but I fall asleep quickly and don't tend to wake up constantly throughout the night. If you do a google search for 5HTP+Insomnia you'll find plenty to read about it. You'll also find conflicting information about the appropriate dose so a bit of experimenting may be needed.
I am sleeping like a baby now I dont smoke (even on champix) but it is historically something I wasnt very good at.
Have you tried sleepeze from Boots (own brand). Its like nightnurse but without the 'nurse' ie. no paracetamol, de-cong, cough suppresent etc. ive only just discovered it and it you take 25mg - no hangover symptoms like sominex. Also pherergen - travel sickness tabs but also knock you out well and proper.
