Query re Blood Tests

A friend recently died less than three weeks after diagnosis of lymph cancer (apologies if on wrong site). The thing that puzzles me is that he had surgery for a hernia (done privately) two weeks before surgery. When I has a stymp revision early this year I had a raft of blood tests including FBC and clotting. Should not these (if done) picked up something was awry?

hi, you would have thought something would have showed up but on saying that, I was getting bloods checked by my rheumatologist for about a year before my diagnosis of NHL. Nothing was ever picked up with mine. Para proteins is what they are looking for as that’s a sign the cancer is there apart from other things. I’ve had treatment and now on watch and wait, para proteins were starting to show up on my last blood tests that my haematologist did. I’m so sorry about your friend, it’s a scary illness.

The only way to fully know, is to get a biopsy. My white blood cells were low as well, when I got them checked. Sorry about your friend.
