Covid 19 has changed all my plans. I made one trip to Tijuana to discuss alternative treatment. I could not return in June because of Covid. I also cannot go to other countries because USA travel restrictions. I have stayed out of States with high Covid numbers.
My doctor just noticed that my platelet count is high. It has been gradually increasing for years. In 2017, it was 652 , now 800 (high normal is 400); taking hydroxyurea. Second pill tonight, itching slightly. Learned tonight that this is chemo. I also need to continue taking an aspirin.
Notice that my cholesterol is high last week. Taking a pill for it and folic acid.
I have never had any chemo for my NHL to date, no treatment except chaga tea, Brazil nuts, little hedge ball , tumeric, garlic, cactus in juicing. If I continue to itch, I am stopping the Hydroxyurea. Any suggestion for a replacement? I don't want to do anything that will cause my cancer to become aggressive. Help!!!

Has your doctor gave you the chemo pill? If so I would say keep taking them in my opinion. I have just started my rounds of chemo (infusion RCHOP) and it is making a world of a difference after 1 treatment. All nodes have reduced dramatically. There are going to be side effects, but in my opinion the job it is doing far outweigh them.
Niacin (flush form) helped me reduce cholesterol. Keto diet increased it and increased my tumour growth. I think its dependent on the person but all research and my own body is telling me protein is the main driver for growth. As loathe as I am to be vegetarian, as meat helps me with energy, my tumours drop a little in size when I eat less meat. Eggs also increased it, and peanut butter so I tend to stick to intermittent poultry and kefir as my source of protein.
My tip is to keep a diary of what and when your eating or supplementing or any protocol to watch reactions and record them over time. It seems follicular lymphoma, being so slow, gives us the advantage of time to try many things without urgency.
Thanks. I agree. I too would prefer 100% health; but I am thankful for the time on Watch and Wait. It has perhaps given us time to do research hopeful make our bodies healthier do if we ever had to have traditional treatments our body may be able to tolerate it. 3-4 years ago as well as today, my doctor's would gladly start me on chemo or some other mixtures. But I always say no, I will wait. My cancer cells have been getting smaller. I return to my doctor in June.
My best friend in life died on 4-13-2021. She had cancer. After surgery she had lots of radiation, chemo. In remission on a Friday, rang the bell; on Monday it was found behind her lung. More rounds of chemo. Then after 3 years of treatment the doctor's said, there is nothing more we can do. They moved her to hospice. Her body had nothing left to fight with. 71 years of age.
If you are offered Chemo please take it. I had stage 4 diffuse B Cell, diagnosed September 2019, I had 6 sessions of RCHOP. I am now in complete remission. Take the Chemo.
