After NHL and BMT

Hi, I’m a caregiver of my husband with NHL ALCL Alk+ and Leptomenges. Took 9 weeks, multiple hospitals and doctors to diagnose summer 2017. He had 5 rounds of CHOEP and then experienced horrible headaches and a seizure which resulted in leptomeneges diagnosis and new course of chemo. After scans with NED he got septic and after months of treatment delay cancer recured. Started using Opdivo in March 2018 and recently scans show NED. We’re currently working on nutrition and strength in order to go to stem cell transplant.

Anyone have experience with stem cell or bone marrow transplant and life after? I know it will be a rough road while his body recovers from radiation and new cells. My husband is 45 and hasn’t worked in over a year with all the treatments and travel. Anyone returned to somewhat normal lifestyle after treatment?

I know 2 long time cancer survivors in my support group and they both went through bone marrow and stem cell transplants. They are both active and travel and have a new normal life. Stay positive, eat nourishing food, sleep well, meditation and prayer will help you get through this period in your life. One of the ladies actually had a double stem cell transplant and is thriving.

I had an auto bmsct in 2/2016 doing fairly well now, not 100% but at a new normal. I was 59 yo at the time, not too many complications, had shingles attack about 4 months after, continuing lung problems. I work part time and exercise, do yoga a little to maintain my health. my best advice i to try to be in as good health as you can going in to the transplant, report any problems asap to your oncologist, stay positive
