Hi, by your question I guess you are asking 'Can you choose the type of Dialysis you have?' My consultant explained the types of dialysis to me and the pros and cons of each and the final decision was mine, I chose the CAPD route, several reasons. I could do it at home, I was in charge, the system is very flexible (you are not tied to times or machines), and if I need to go out, I pack what I will need for the day and off I go!

Are you in contact with a Pre Dialysis Nurse? they are able to answer any queries you may have.

Hope this has been helpful

If doing hemodialysis its usually at beginning of treatment in neck , then left arm if not left handed it takes about 6 weeks for fisular to heal enough (no line showing just a bulge /slightly thicker arm ) so it can be used, so you will need neck access till then. If doing CAPD stomach access low down and some of line visable to outer body . Do ask as many questions to your Dialysis team they will do what you want them to and explain everything .
