Husband had his transplant 4 months ago and has so desire to eat. He says the food is terrible. Someone told me to use plastic utensils. Tried that but still no improvement. Has anyone experienced this?

I had a transplant three years ago and food had no taste and I had little appetite. My appetite I pretty good now. When I am hungry I eat. My doctor suggested adding some spices like chili flakes and salt, to add flavor if BP is low enough, or other spices. It seems to help. I do find certain fruits more sour than sweet. Not certain if that is just me.

Depending on the immunosuppressant that he is on, could be giving him a somewhat metallic taste. He needs to tell his transplant team his issues with eating. Could need the dose lowered. He needs to eat well and stay healthy, especially since his transplant. The transplant team has seen this before , I am sure. They may be able to give tips and help with thisAs with everything, time will help.

I think all the treatments that he has had to receive, including blood infusion and incubation, added a load of stress to his body. Based on your descriptions, his complications are still not under control and are being actively managed, which may be why he is still in rehab. This is a critical time to get him stable medically. I would caution against negotiating for changing or lowering of any medications at this time. At a minimum, let his medical team stabilize his conditions first. Three months post transplant is still a very crtlitical period (decisions made now will affect his health and the health of the transplant) especially given the neurologic and other sequela he had experienced. Please seek and follow advices from his medical team only, to be safe.

Yes, this is fairly common after surgery. Everything that I ate after my transplants tasted like it was laden with salt. One thing that worked for me was protein shakes. You can either buy them or make them at home. This helped get me over the hump until food began tasting normal again. For me, it took over 4 months.

I had the same issue but it appears to be resolving. I had lost a bit of weight initially but am starting to regain it. I actually was much closer to my goal weight so this is a bit disconcerting. Not sure I have any advice for you. With me, it got better when I switched from Mycophenolate Mofetil to Mycophenolic Acid.
