Hi, I was trasplanted 10 months ago. I have missed in 3 ocassions my dose of inmunosuppessors until the next dose (12hours). I know this has to be avoided at all cost and I take very seriously my treatment. I love my new given life quality and I want to be here for many years to see my two daughters grow. I have now bought an alarm wrist watch just in case to double up my cel alarm. I am very concerned on the consequences of my distractions. It would be very reassuring to know if someone has done this and still has his/her kidney working properly years after.
Many thanks!

There isn’t much you could do to keep your kidney working well except to take your meds on time, stay hydrated and try not to get infections. Did you tell the doctor you missed doses of your medications?
Please try to always have your kidney on your mind over anything else.
Do you skip them completely? I ask, because my team told me to take them even if it's late and to keep on track afterwards. Also, at least for my regimen, it is structured around mealtimes and waking up/going to bed, which helps me remember. Maybe that would help you if you aren't already doing this?
I hope that your new kidney isn't greatly impacted by missing doses. It also depends on how close together they were and talking to your team about good ways to remember to take your meds will keep you on track. I was only transplanted 7 weeks ago, so my routine was dictated for me by my team, but I'd imagine you'd be able to find something that works for you good luck!
I'm 36 months post and have missed many, many doses in the past. Only 1 in the AM or PM, I am not talking about multiple doses or many days in a row just one or 2 here an there. Life gets busy. I have not had any negative effects. Do not beat yourself up! Stress and negativity are not good either so understand there will be slips. Get back on track and it is likely a good choice that you now have an alarm. Congratulations and good luck!
Thanks! I needed to hear something like this. I was punishing myself for my mistake. As you say sometimes a phone call just as you are planning to take your meds and you can completly forget. No real excuse I know, but it happened. Thanks again!
Hi Alfons my name is Dave I’m 9 months strong💪Yesterday too have missed my meds don’t know why guess I was distracted ? I was a bit worried but I talked to my tramsplantnurse she told me just to continue your routine the next day 🙏 as long as it doesn’t happen too often. Conrad’s on your transplant stay strong and healthy 💪🙏😝
Sounds like getting a watch was a good idea! I also try to have my meds in an obvious spot, so I can't NOT see them, but I'm three years on and have missed a few here and there without issue. It's good to be a little freaked out, but not panicked - that won't help. I think it is more of an issue if you miss more than one in a row (obviously missing any isn't great, but missing one every few months is kind of how life goes, I think). Work to not miss them, but don't beat yourself up too badly. Good luck! Be sure to exercise more and eat less salt!
I also have a pill container with the days of the week and is divided into AM and a PM. After getting up in the morning and before going to bed at night I always check this to make sure I have taken them all. It's my double check system.
Yes, I have missed a couple doses over the years. It is not a good thing to do so taking your meds has to be the top priority. These are occasional misses but strive not to do it again. Best to always have a dose with you that way you can take it. Don’t beat yourself up just try not to do it again.
Hey Alfonsov don't beat yourself up over a missed dose it happens to the best of us. I got a Tranplant back in 2000 and I get busy with family activities, church & work & after all this time I still forget or I'm traveling and it happens but I take it as soon as I remember my Dr., who has done over 6,000 transplants over 30 years told me that it's so much immunosuppressant in your system it would take days of not taking your Meds to start rejection but this by NO MEANS MEANS THAT YOU MAKE THIS A HABIT but your still new to this overtime it will be second nature to you GOD BLESS YOU Alfonsov & good luck
Hey!!! Yes i have, was done on purpose just a slip. I am 2 tears in. My kidney is working very well, I have my watch set my Google set an my phone. But sometimes, I get so wtaped up into the things that I am doing all of my alarm go off , I say ok take your meds, then I start cooking, cleaning, working, run out to take my son to practice ECT....... But you get the point. Just make sure you stay on it. Don't get so busy. Keep up the great work. Remember to excersise if just walking. And stretching 🙏🙏💜💜🙏🙏
I had my transplant in 2015. I sometimes miss my doseage but my doctor advise that i should take as soon after and if too many hours have lapsed I should wait for the next dosage. He also cautioned that I should make sure that I do not miss any of the dosage. During the early stage of my transplant I use my alarm and a schedule for mealtime.
Do try and not get distracted too often. Wishing you best with your transplant.
I am definitely not planning to do it again. I have my cel alarm on and just snooze it if a am not able to take my medicine inmediately and only stop the snooze when I have already taken the pills. As extra precaution I now have a watch with an alarm set 10 minutes later just in case. Long story short I was getting a ciclosporine curve taken and couldnt take my pills until the blood test was taken. Long story short the sample was a bit late and by the time I was out of the clinic I had forgotten to take my pills. I needed to hear from someone with years of a sucessfull trasplant some reassurance that they had done the same and that I had not spoiled the chance of having a long lasting kidney and that if these real life mistakes happen every so often (as many as none hopefully) I still have the chance of having my kidney for eventually decades to come.
Thanks everyone! And lets celebrate for a healthy living!
Hi AlfonsoV,You have done the right thing taking extra precautions .I'am more than sure I've missed a few, over my 45 years being a kidney transplant .
I have missed my meds a couple of times, and when i had a blood test, my cretanin levels were very low, near to kidney failing, the doctor told me to get straight back on them and i would be fine. My cretanin is great again now, but like u, i set an alarm, and take them as soon as it goes off
