New here… Daughter on hemodialysis for 10+ years. Started peritoneal dialysis a few months ago. She is handicapped and cannot perform her own PD. My husband and I would like to hire someone to perform it for her from time to time. Is there nursing care out there for that?

PD help!
The Dialysis Center that trained you should be able to answer that
I'd imagine so especially if she's on any kind of government medical insurance. Like Rhen Dutchess said I'd start by talking to her dialysis center.
She should have a nurse too for her PD Dialysis. She should be of help to you also.
If a nurse isn’t covered by insurance, an in-home care group, Visiting Angels, may be an answer. They could be trained through the dialysis center and then take care of PD a few days a week. I’m not sure what the hourly wage is in your area but suspect it would be less than paying out of pocket for in-home nursing care.

I have a question ....You would like to have time off from time to time...of course you do and you should, you sound like an awesome Mom....You said she is handicapped and cannot perform her own PD...Do you have someone that stays with her from time to time?...If so, maybe that person can learn to perform her Dialysis...You could teach them...if she uses a nightime cycler, even easier..
You may even ask your Dialysis Center if another PD pt would be interested in doing this...I am a PD pt and I would accept a sometimes job helping another do their Dialysis...you might be surprised at the capable hands you could find
