Hello, I’m new to the group. I was a “crash lander” as I had routine blood work done about a year and half ago and received the most terrifying call of my life. “You have no Kidney Function, get to the Hospital now”. 90 days later, my older sister donated her kidney to me, a near perfect match, God bless her. I am a Non smoker / drinker (I know, boring) and my BMI is and was in check. Appears to have been heredity(?). I am 1 year and 3 months post transplant and all numbers green! My creatinine is .098 (better than 7.7 and rising when diagnosed) and I’m doing better than I deserve. Question, my blood sugar is the only number not stable, fluxes between a low of 98 and a high of 195. What are you all doing to keep yours in check? I’m eating very smartly and just can’t seem to stabilize it. Thanks for your time and responses in advance...

New to the group..
Welcome!
Glad you can join us! I am relatively new too and find this forum very helpful and friendly! I cannot tell why your glucose fluctuates, usually they go up steadily. Did you do your lab work fasting? For glucose you definitely need to be fasting.
I found my blood sugars were great before transplant but due to the immunosuppressants and steroids it shot off the charts. I am type 2 and I now have to use insulin whereas before I was on medication. I was told by my transplant team that the majority of type 2 patients inevitably end up on insulin after a transplant. That information would have been great beforehand. My HBA1c was 138 before insulin and right now it is 62. So I’m so happy it’s going in the right direction.
Welcome to this great community!
Talk with your transplant team regarding your glucose readings. It is true that the steroids and immunosuppressants can effect these readings. Mine jumped around for awhile and then settled down in the normal range. Make sure that when they do test your glucose you are fasting to get a true reading.
Welcome! Just wondering if you felt badly before you found out you had kidney failure?
You know, now that I am post transplant yes. Looking back, I had some swelling and frothy urine. But other than that...oddly no.
I am in the same boat, they say it’s because of the meds. I fluctuate between 98 and 145. Trying to get myself motivated to exercise more, losing weight will help,
I Keep an eye on carbs - specially for Dinner, + watch my gluten intake, eat High potassium foods, walk a lot to control my BMI. and have virtually eliminated sugar. Higher the Tacro dosage .. more vulnerable to onset of diabetes...(but we have no choice on this one), I also think it has to do with genetics, was your A1c high prior to the Transplant. Both my parents were non diabetic. but still the my glucose range fluctuates between 95 - 110, I would imagine 10/15% fluctuation I is the new normal for me. Good Luck
