I am coming up to my one year anniversary of my transplant surgery I am amazed regarding getting through the ups and downs of the past year.

Has anyone reversed their fistula after one year post transplant? Are there reasons pro or con regarding the reversal surgery?

Does your fistula still work? Most often they stop working after transplant.

I did not have a fistula, but had an AV graft.

I think transplant centers don't reverse fistulas or in my case remove grafts because it's a needless surgery and there is always the worry of infection.

My fistula is over 10 years old & still works. Don;;t reverse it as you might need it later is what I was told by my transplant doctor

Hello Transplant314, So happy for you. I wish there was a Happy Transplant Anniversary that I could send to you. Since I don't think it exists I just say: Happy Anniversary again.

With regard to the fistula, I have one that was never used (thank God). I had been on the Transplant List for 6 years and very close to having dialysis. I can barely see the scar but the numbness in that area is still there. I'd think that this is a very personal decision. If you want it reversed and the doctors feel that there is no risk to you then go for it.

They have told me it is wise as there is greater blood flow to the heart and If I do not need it I should reverse so there are no potential cardiac issues in the future

Happy Kidneyversary! I’m turning 8months and was thinking about reversing my fistula as well but a lil worried if theres any complications that could happen

Dear Transplant314,

You asked a Simple Question, so here is an equally Simple Answer.

Don't, even think, of Reversing your Fistula....You might need it again, if Ever your Transplant fails! That is, quite apart from, any Risks involved.

Just, leave Well Alone, unless it gives you any Problems.

My fistula stopped working as soon as I got my transplant. I wouldn't have it messed with unless your doctor notes a problem.
