Does your fistula still work? Most often they stop working after transplant.
I did not have a fistula, but had an AV graft.
I think transplant centers don't reverse fistulas or in my case remove grafts because it's a needless surgery and there is always the worry of infection.
Hello Transplant314, So happy for you. I wish there was a Happy Transplant Anniversary that I could send to you. Since I don't think it exists I just say: Happy Anniversary again.
With regard to the fistula, I have one that was never used (thank God). I had been on the Transplant List for 6 years and very close to having dialysis. I can barely see the scar but the numbness in that area is still there. I'd think that this is a very personal decision. If you want it reversed and the doctors feel that there is no risk to you then go for it.
They have told me it is wise as there is greater blood flow to the heart and If I do not need it I should reverse so there are no potential cardiac issues in the future
Happy Kidneyversary! I’m turning 8months and was thinking about reversing my fistula as well but a lil worried if theres any complications that could happen
