Hello :)

I'm one week on from my kidney transplant surgery. Any tips for recovery and life with a transplant? X

Congratulations! Always take your meds. and listen to your doctors. Going to a few counseling sessions after my transplant really helped me to stay focused and not worry about rejection. But the best advice that I can share with you is to stay positive and smile a lot! You've been given the gift of life. Sending blessing and prayers your way. (14yr kidney transplant survivor)

Since you’re one week out, walk! Get up and walk, the more you walk the less time it’ll take to recoup, you’ll need less pain meds and you’ll be better off for it. Stay hydrated, take your meds diligently, and eat a healthy diet. Get your fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, and eat a variety. Take in the fact you’ve been given an amazing gift, be grateful and be at peace in whatever avenue you received your gift. May you be blessed with many years of good health!

Take your meds at the same time every day, drink alot of water & try to exercise- walking is great. Any problems no matter how small you think it is, call your transplant center

Congratulations on your wonderful GIFT! Take your pills, stay hydrated, eat healthy, start walking and have labs done as ordered by your doctors. You know your body better than anyone, so if you start having side effects from the meds, or feel strange - report all to your transplant team, even if it doesn't seem serious. I think your attitude is everything! LIVE LIFE! Be positive and best of luck! I am 19 years post transplant & living life to the fullest.

In April I will have had my brothers kidney for 32 years. My best advice and what has helped me the most is to do everything in moderation. You have had a transplant that has given you a new lease for life. Getting a transplant is not a cure but it is the absolute best option available. Taking the advice of others including me is merely that advice. What works for others may not be right for you. The expert is your Nephrologist his course for you is based on kidney knowledge and experience. Go out and live to the fullest you can and let moderation be your course.

How wonderful!!! Congratulations to you. I am only a little over 4 months post transplant, so others may have better advice for you. I have found that it is very important to take your meds , drink a lot of water, try to get a good nights sleep, eat well, and get up and walk around. I am sure you will do well. It is an exciting time for you. Hooray!!

Do what you doctors tell you and drink lots of water. Rule of thumb is half your body weight daily in oz.

Rest listen to your body.

150lbs. Try to Drink 75oz. Daily

Best of luck! I am 16 months post transplant. Praying it last 20+ years.
