I just received a transplant at January 1st this new year. What a blessing.
Most verything is coming along fine. lots of adjustments again, but that is fine also.
Trying to make sure to take care of myself and my new partner kidney, i am looking for a transplant dietitian . To my surprise it is not easy to find one. My hospital does not have one, while the surgery was excellent.
I live in san Francisco. Would anyone knows how to find one or any source? Appreciate your help.
Thank you
Ken

Most dialysis centers have a dietition that might help or talk to you transplant team, I do protein with complex carbs & cut out all or most simple carbs. I'm 7 yrs post transplant. GOOD LUCK!
I've been diabetic since 1989. I basically use the ATKINS diet. I do mix in fruit, nuts & occasional chocolate sometimes. My A1C is 6.7. At dialysis for almost 3 yrs, the dietition said I was the star patient. I won the contest monthly for the best albumin. I admit I cheat occasionaly. I blame it on the prednesone as it makes me crave carbs. I've never had to gain weight, so I don't know how to help there. I check my blood sugar 4 times a day. Get a carb counter book & see how many carbs are in all foods & you will be surprised. If you have any other questions ,feel free to ask. This works for me, and everyone is different. Atkins does make you feel more energy, less gas, sleep better. eliminates some pains & controls your A1C. I wish I knew about it before I became diabetic. once again GOOD LUCK
Wow. Love to learn from the best, Only way to learn.
I was lucky during dialysis, the treatment rinsed away my sugar , cholesterol , and gout problem. Maybe that is why i got a transplant easier. Lucky me
With my blessed transplant, my diabetes may come back ..but no medication yet. I want to keep it low and i will get the carb count book and doing some homework..
Talking knowing about these knowledge before. I guess This is another example of "if the youngs only know, and the olds only can"..
We are those who knows now, and with the blessed transplant, we still can...
I am 72 . This is my new life πππ
Thanks for sharing again. Looking forward to learning to you.
I don't know if I am the best, but this works for me. I have learned as much from other transplant patients as far as side effects etc. as from the doctors. Just trying to help anyone I can
No, I'm not a peer support person, just trying to help other transplant people through my own experiences. I have learned a lot through other people & nuch reading. I am 67 yrs old
Believe it or not, popcorn raises my blood sugar so I don't eat it also because I have diverticulosis. I try to make as much of my food from scratch, but I do eat some canned once in a while. Anything in moderation. Dr. told me you do need some salt, but not too much. Be well!
I forgot to mention to you that the diet I follow will reduce your dependence on insulin or oral drugs for diabetes. I never took insulin until after transplant as some of the anti-rejection drugs raise your blood sugar. If I stick to my diet strictly, I only take minimal insulin after 3 days
Hi I ha da transplant nine months ago I fall on my labs on line I talked to a regular dietician on a regular basis and I do a lot of research on my own and con graduations and just use common sense and trying to find a regular dieticanπππ
Thanks. Congratulations on your transplant also. I am sure you study hard for the knowledge.
I am sure i will find one. I just Google dietitian. There are so many available..plus my previous experience give me a good foundation to carry on with this new chapter. Best luck to all of us.
I found I had to advocate for my self or nothing would get done in a timely fasionπafter a while the nurses realized I knew what I was talking about not like most if he other people in my unit they where all in their 70 or 80s and didnβt have a clue what was going g on with their healthππ
I got lucky when i was new to dialysis 5 yrs ago. I watched this video where the speaker tell us to advocate for ourself because the staff just doing their job. He said the squeaky wheel get the oil. So i asked them questions and i got different answers.
So i started to advocate for what i thought was correct. They then seemed to respect me more later. like you, i studied a lot and learned . I thought all these hard work did help me to get the transplant sooner, with God's blessings.
I used Google to search now. Nice we got Google. Very handy if not too much information.
i'd like to ask a question about tuna and mercury. Because of my diabetes and needing to do blood test twice a week, i need fasting. If i eat too much starchy food, the morning blood sugar will be high..so i choose hard boiled egg, and can chicken no salt added.
I also looked into tuna which is fine, But it has mercury.
so far i am not eating them yet, even they have do much possible benefits. I rather not eat them yet i don't understand the mercury effects.
Maybe you can ask your dietitian while i still looking for one.?
I attached the link below about tuna and its mercury.
Please give me your opinion, if it might interest you . Thank you..

The shrimp dumpling is very starchy, for me if i eat only 3 of them , my sugar will go to 200.

With God's blessing, i just found a transplant dietitian today. Lots of
info about my blood test report. She gave me a B+ for a newly transplant of two month.
Haha. I am 72 with a 24 yrs kidney. Thank God..ππ
i work as retirement and Investment planner for people. This helps me to keep them at peace of mind. And keeping me busy. I work knly 2 or 3 times per week only.
Married and have 2 millennials boys.
About 30.
Just have a grd son. Haha. With God's good blessings. πππ
Congratulations on the grandchild π iβm a 56-year-old single male never married and no children thankπ The only reason I say that is because of my health whole most of my life so I donβt have to burden anybody with it but myself πππ
Your are just fine, unique person with certain blind spots...like all of us.
Haha, i felt the same way around age 30. no steady job, no money. No house, no nothing..so i did not want to hinder anybody..just like you.
Then God brought me this angel who changed my life. She brought out the best in me. She gave me two angels boys (men now) and one of them just gave me a grd son.
Also God gives me this kidney for a purpose (unknown). So he gives you for a kidney too. That is a purpose for you also. So share your luck and blessings with people around you. So that must be a purpose for you. ? Maybe using your health situation. but still blessed by God as with a walking miracle attitude...haha..πππ
I totally agree with you no Iβm here for a reason and the reason Iβm still alive is so I can help others thatβs why I became a mentor for dialysis patients to share my experience π and I am still looking for my angel π
