I went to a routine eye exam yesterday and after a retinal scan was told I need to have cataract surgery, sooner rather than later, as this type of cataract progresses quickly. Anyone have this issue?
Any pre/post eye surgery precautions related to being a transplant patient is appreciated, thank you!

Steroids caused Posterior subcapsular cataracts for me and I underwent Laser surgery to remove the cataract in R eye. precautions -- In left eye I have swelling due to Central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) so no surgery
Thanks for your reply. My cataracts were also caused by steroids use (from asthma inhalers). Sorry your CSC prevented doing your left eye. I read a little about CSC and sometimes it resolves on its own. I hope that is the case for you.
Thanks for your reply. CSC in Left eye is due to taking oral steroids after transplant (kidneys failed due to PKD) CSC is not resolving for long time, eye doctor said CSC will resolve only if I stop the steroids
Last week (in the UK) I had an emergency operation to repair a detached retina in my right eye & was amazed how little my transplant (21 years ago) had to do with anything.
I told them that I still had a working fistula in my left arm & gave them a list of my current medications but that was it.
Afterwards I was given 2 x lots of eye drops to take daily, one was to stop infection & one was prednisolone.
Just take it easy while recovering & stay hydrated.
I will take your good advice, thank you! Glad you had no complications and appreciate you taking the time to write about it. Hopefully there are no more emergency surgeries in your future, but at least now you know you are in good hands where you are, just in case.
I am now 5 years post transplant. I had cataract surgery 3 years ago at age 51. I went to a routine eye exam and was asked by the optometrist whether I took any steroids. Post cataract surgery everything has gone well with my eyes. I was unaware of this side effect before developing cataracts.
Thanks for responding. Glad to hear things went well, that is reassuring to me. I have heard from numerous friends and family who have had this surgery and all went well - but they are not transplant patients. So it is helpful to hear from transplant people in particular. I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
I had subcapsular cataracts in my 50s due to long term prednisone use for lupus (which also caused my kidney disease) The cataract surgery was no big deal and my vision has been great ever since. The cataracts were causing severe night blindness when driving.
