Hi all!

A good friend of mine back in WI who had a liver transplant is in ICU with the flu bug that we have been hearing so much about on the news. Wonder what you are doing to stay healthy this winter? Would love to hear your thoughts? I think it's hard sometimes when at work, and someone that should have stayed home sick, doesn't. Did you all get the flu shot?

Great question! Here are some tips for staying healthy and avoiding the flu: kidney.org/content/5-tips-a...

Also for transplant recipients specifically, here is some information on the flu shot: kidney.org/newsletter/flu-s...

Great articles, thanks Kelli. My husband and I both got the flu shot, but after a trip he came down with it. I think the most important thing I did, was wash my hands a lot. As a transplant recipient, I think that is the most important thing we can do and not just during flu season. I also got good news this morning, that my friend will be out of ICU later today. She did by the way, have the flu shot.

I was transplanted in January and fearful of this seasons flu. I’ve done my best to wash my hands at every opportunity and I wear a mask when in large crowds. I’ve also tried to eat anti-inflammatory foods and staying hydrated.

I did not get the flu shot.

Good luck with your friend!

Thanks so much Peter! Talked with her husband tonight and she is out of ICU and in a regular room. She is breathing on her own, off the ventilator and doing well. Hope to talk with her tomorrow. I thank God that all worked out for her.
