My donor is a match!

Hi Everyone! I'm a newbie. I am currently doing dialysis while I wait for transplant. I have a donor (my nurse practitioner) and she is a match so it's just a matter of scheduling the surgery. I'm so excited!

Fantastic News for you!! I had my third kidney transplant in March and it is almost 1 year old (3/1). I received my kidney as a result of a co-worker donating for me but we did not match. We got a match through paired-donation. My co-worker is doing great and has always been physically active and regained that activity within a couple of months.

I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.

That is so exciting! I gave my husband a kidney 04/10/2017. We had a delay due to a medical issue at the last minute for our first surgery date in Dec. 2015. Hopefully everything will go smoothly for you and your donor. Just keep in mind that issues may come up along the way and you just have to hang in there!

I'm a go with the flow kind of person. Thanks!

That is so great Ginny. What a compassionate nurse to do such a selfless donation. Praying all goes well for you. Its really hard to describe what one goes through on dialysis. I see my fiancé do it each night. He wants his quality of life back so bad. His 18 yr old son says he will donate. Do you think he would bounce back as a donor more than a person over 50?

Depends on his general health, but younger ones do bounce back quicker.

Hi I’m now 7 months post transplant & doing very well with good stable blood results. Just wanted to say I got my transplant from my step dad, who is a very fit 72 year old. He said just a few weeks ago that he now notices no difference at all in himself, but at his age the first few weeks & even two months were hard. A young fit strong 18 year old will do it easily & is likely to recover at least 50% of the higher eGFR that he already has.
