Hemodialysis and Your Diet: Diet is a key... - Kidney Dialysis
Hemodialysis and Your Diet
I also have developed coronary artery disease so I have to follow a heart healthy diet and there are contradictions to the renal diet. Heart healthy is heavy on whole grains but not the renal diet. Heart healthy wants some fruits and veggies that a person with CKD/Dialysis shouldn't eat. It's a balancing act between the two.
hi Horsie, So sorry for your CAD. You can't catch a break. Actually, whole grains are great for CKD. As long as it is organic and not processed. Humans only absorb half or less of the phosphorous in whole grains. The fiber is also excellent for CKD. So go eat your whole grain breads and oatmeal. As far as fruits, berries, apples and cherries are all great fruits for both. Stick to olive oil for fats. Butter only for special occasions, not margarine. Low salt for both.
So far what I've been doing is working...cholesterol great after years of it being high. Phos, potassium, sodium all within range. In fact right now my phosphorus is low. My protein is finally coming up but is still kind of low. I've started walking on my treadmill, slowly right now.
Unfortunately since I had to have a stent I now take a blood thinner and it's affecting my anemia. You're right I cannot catch a break....well at least physically no breaks...lol.
