Medical alert bracelet

Does anyone on hemodialysis wear a medical alert bracelet or necklace?

I’m considering getting one for if I’m out of it and my husband isn’t around. Right now he still has to drive me places but as I get better I plan on driving myself.

The NKF has a pdf explaining the access solution for hemodialysis and recommendations getting a medical alert bracelet.

I wear one that says no IV, BP or needles this arm. It is a cheap one. When I start dialysis, I plan on getting a good one, probably in sterling. If I have to wear one, its going to be nice.

Do you wear it on the fistula arm? Is that okay?

I wear one. Just seems like a good precaution.

I have a plastic(?) band on my left arm that says: "No needles or BP this arm." And then, on my right, I have a nice gold medic alert bracelet stating my name, that I suffer from CKD, that I have an AV fistula on my left arm, and important numbers on the back for my Significant Other, and my GP. I think I'm covered. ;-)

Yes I've worn one for 30 years. I've always gone through MedicAlert. Love it. I recently bought one through MyI.D. they have oodles of options. There are many companies to choose from. I have silicone wristbands warning to save this arm. No bp or needle sticks. They are free. Blessings

Ok I’m convinced they are a good idea. When I did ultramarathons I wore one from RiadID cause I’d be out there alone sometimes.

It's a wise decision to do so. My hubby passed out while driving down the road all alone. He wasn't wearing one - he was lucky that his symptoms (profuse sweating) alerted EMS that he had low sugars. Another thing I'd like to mention is that my hubby's car "saved" him by automatically braking and throwing on the hazards. All newer cars now have this basic form navigational radar. So if you have an older vehicle that might need replacing, look for a newer one with that basic radar capability.
