Back on Haemodialysis

Well that moment has happened. I am back on dialysis. I have been so lucky. I am 29 years and 3 months transplanted. I have been declining with stage 5 CKD over the last couple of years. Originally I had atypical HUS which caused my kidney failure. I had my catheter put in yesterday and haemodialysis for 1 hour. 2 hours booked Monday and will be increased again Wednesday. I feel so sad but I was relieved the session went well yesterday. In 1994 I would have seizures, migraines, vomiting and low blood pressure. So I was terrified. Isn’t it funny how everyone tells you how well you are looking and all you want to do is curl up in a ball and sleep.

Putting my big girl pants on now and getting ready to fight!! Wishing all of you much love xxx

WOW.....you have had your kidney for over 29 years??? That is amazing!! I'm on the transplant list and haemodialysis. I really feel for you having to go back on dialysis. Its one of my biggest fears. However I hope I have your attitude, if I do...Big girl pants 🤣🤣🤣🤣...If there is one thing I have learnt on this blasted journey...have a good cry, feel sorry for yourself for a couple of days, then get on with it. It's not easy but we have no other choice. Wishing you all the best and keep us updated x

Did you not have the chance for Peritoneal Dialysis? It's a lot easier on the body. The fact your transplant lasted 29 years is pretty amazing. Hopefully you can get another soon.

Hi,

I cannot do PD as I have had too much abdominal surgery. Have to use a chest catheter as my veins are no good so fistulas are out. First one in 1994 only lasted a couple of weeks. Two hours to go tomorrow. Hoping it stays like it was on Friday. They didn’t remove any fluid on Friday though so hoping when that starts it doesn’t get worse.

Fingers crossed 😊

That's so very tough. You've done so well with your transplant; I'm sure you took wonderful care of it. I really hope you'll receive another one. I truly wish this hadn't happened. I sense you'll be great support for everyone coping with a failing transplant, those transitioning to dialysis, and more. You've certainly "gone around the block". And, of course, we're here for you too!

Thank you so much. I have had my second round of dialysis and so far so good. It is just going to be getting used to the new routine now. And knowing I have done this before and can do it again. Big love xxx
