Antihistamine

Can someone please recommend a safe antihistamine for allergies. Mine are usually mild but this year they are going crazy with itchy eyes and drippy nose. I have stage 4 kidney failure and am trying to preserve what is left of my function as I am 82 years old. I live in California. Have tried to reach my nephrologist and regular doctor all without success. It seems like our health care system is falling apart. Would appreciate any suggetions.

I'm taking Allegra on my doctor's advice. Best to ask your nephrologist or call the office (instead of an advice off the internet).

My hubby was told by our primary doctor to take child-size Zyrtec - apparently with dialysis the body processes things differently so adult Zyrtec was off the table for him. But it's always best to check with your own team.

I’m in California as well and allergies have been really bad this year. My PCP also told me to start with half a Zyrtec before I started dialysis but I was still miserable so I consulted my nephrologist and he said then take the whole one. I did it only when extremely necessary back then as I too was trying to avoid dialysis. Now I am post transplant and my transplant team said Zyrtec is ok to take as well. Since you are trying to preserve your function, air on the side of caution and take the baby step until you can get confirmation from your medical doctor.

Thanks for your helpful response. Sounds like Zyrtec is the way to go. Response from my PCP office was to do 3 Covid tests then they would prescribe!!
