I am a 73 yr old Afo American female and after using lidocaine plus 4% for the pin of needle stick the last 3 years I was prescribed lidocaine 2.5% and prilocaine cream 2.5% after 2 uses the area looked as if I was burned including blisters, discontinued use and went back to the Salonpas but it looks as if damage was done, area continued to turn dark, dry and now itch like crazy.
Started using A+D first aid ointment/Skin Protectant w/vitamin A % D but there has been no improvement....ANY SUGGESTIONS?????

i dont have any answers but hope someone can offer some advice. My fistula itches really badly, so I cant imagine what its like for you. All the best and I hope things improve.
Sounds as if you are allergic to the cream, so I would seek medical care for it. Also, you could try just not using any cream for awhile and see if you can tolerate it. I was on hemodialysis for 4 years and didn't always use the cream because my fistula access got scarred from all the needle sticks and I didn't feel them after a while. I would also have them use a tape that feels better for you. I would go home with the blue tape that didn't stick and pull at my skin coming off. Take care!
