How to read blood work to know u r doing ok in dialysis?

Hi

Before dialysis, I mostly focused on the GFR number to know how I am doing . Now that in dialysis, how do U know u r “doing well”?

I am not seeing significant changes yet on BUN though not sure if I am not doing enough exchanges or whether that this number doesn’t change much.

Long ago, I read to keep an eye on three P's. Those being protein (albumin), phosphorus and potassium. Keeping those within range show how well your diet and dialysis are working.

Oops - I forgot the best test to keep an eye on - that being your Clearance or KT/V. It sounds like you are on PD, at our clinic they do the Clearance test once a quarter but other clinics may do it on a different schedule.

Ot will tell you on the paperwork they give you the range you need to be in for kt/v. I think it is like 120 to 230 something like that. I hang around 160 and they are fine with that so far.
