5th stage kidney failure: Hello everyone new... - Kidney Dialysis
5th stage kidney failure
Hello Krisji,
You have reached the right group. On the diet question, there are many knowledgeable people in this group who would guide you better than I can. But I just wanted to say that you are in my prayers. And I am sure there will be answers. Stay strong🙏🌼
Hello--Each dialysis unit has a dietitian who works in conjunction with the Dr. at your unit. Consult with them to get the best advise.
It is very important to reach out to the dietitian at your husband's dialysis clinic. She will have the limits for your husband for example "stay under 1000 mg of sodium, 2000 mg of potassium and 1000 mg of phosphorus as a daily goal". This should be tailored for your husband's specific needs. Also take a look at "kidneyschool.org" for a wealth of general ESRD or CKD information and davita.com for recipes. It is overwhelming for both of you at this point and it may feel like there is nothing safe to eat, but it just takes a bit of creativity and guidance. PM me if you have other questions. Blessings
Hey Krisjl, I cant really tell u about diabetes health meals, other than to tell u to look at DaVita.com, they have alot kidney and heart friendly recipes and for those with diabetes. His social deitian at the dialysis unit should also be able to help with his diet...I'm sorry that ur husband had been faced with this way of life. But we are warriors, we help to keep everyone uplifted and mcouraged, so u have found a nice group to be in. Wishing you the best.
I like how you said it--we are warriors, we help to keep everyone uplifted and encouraged. In my kidney center, a very dear lady just passed away, a week before her pass, she gave me the most angelic smile and greeting, i'd never forget, and then the next time I saw her she was asleep but in such a fatigue look, and then her chair was empty for two times in a row, then I got the news.............., God bless her and save her dear friend who's been faithfully taken care of her till the end.
I'm sorry to hear that. In my time of getting off dialysis and having my transplant, to just 3 and a half weeks ago, 4 warriors lost their lives in the center. 2 of them I was pretty close to. It hurt my feelings. I felt so bad. Sometime people don't see or understand just how hard kidney disease is cause our pain use what others can't see. I pray for all families that experienced such a loss and the warriors who are facing issues. Continued blessings to you.
