Chronic kidney disease and Aki

Dr. Greger's science-based website has been very helpful to me. His posts and videos are rigorously researched and documented. And all the proceeds from his books (which are excellent and include a cookbook) go to charity. I hope this helps.

Of course I can’t address your specific situation, but at age 29 I was hospitalized with AKI and spent 6 months recovering from the first month in ICU with two flatline EKG’s to show for it. That was in 1996 and I was 29 years old. You could do the math, but for the past 29 years, I’ve lived a normal life (whatever that might be) but free of any issues from the CKD and resulting AKI except for semi-annual tips to a nephrologist for really a blood draw and a “don’t think you’ll die this year prognosis…lol. Since 1996 my eGFR has been 15-20 last reading 15-it bounces around depending on hydration, diet etc, but if there is no underlying systemic disease and you know what caused the AKI and avoid that in future, as has been my case, then I’m now 58 living as long (so far) post AKI because I avoided the behaviors causing the initial AKI. But that’s specific to me. If your renal failure is caused by systemic disease or kidney malformation etc, I cannot speak to those specific circumstances. I wanted to offer some “good news” and hope I have. However, I can’t speak to renal failure caused by specific renal disease. My apologies for not being more informed. My best to your in your situation!
