Tacrolimus and Hemolytic Anemia

30 months post transplant and my labs mostly look really good. I have this nagging hemolytic anemia. There are lots of possible causes, but I am curious if anyone has had hemolytic anemia that was resolved by stopping tacrolimus?

I am following up with a hematologist. So I am not trying to circumvent actual medical advice or use the internet for diagnosis and treatment. Just hoping to hear from others who have experienced this.

Hi, I am 5 month post transplant and have haemolytic anaemia. My tac wasn’t stopped. I was diagnosed with Parvovirus and have been treated with IV immunoglobulin. Hope they find a cause for yours soon.

Curious, what are your symptoms? I'm on tacrolimus and I'm 11 years out. Though I had BK so my transplant isn't doing all that well, but still plugging along, thankfully!!

My RBC, Iron, hemoglobin is always on the low side, not terribly low, but low.

Hi 6V53,

So happy to hear that post transplant that your labs are looking good!

Warm wishes for continued health and happiness.

In regard to your question regarding the Tacrolimus,

I was given a low dose of Tacrolimus for 4 months to reduce protein spilling as a result of Membraneous Nephropathy, an auto-immune kidney disorder.

I was monitored every 10 days and knew that my many of my labs were flagging.

Three months after being taken off the drug, my CBC, iron and ferritin iron levels had returned to normal.

Remember that every person is different and their bodies respond differently to medications for many reasons.

Bear in mind as well that you were given this drug for a different reason; to help your body adjust to a transplant which yields many reactions.

Continue to eat healthily and go over this with your medical team and see if there is a reason for this and if so, what can they suggest to rectify the situation.

Let me know how you are doing.

It's all a process!

Bet
