I received a kidney transplant May 2024, and I’m thankfully doing well enough that I’ve been cleared by my doctor to snowboard this season! They recommend I use a kidney guard for extra protection but weren’t able to give specific recommendations.
Does anybody have any recommendations on what kidney guard/cushion to purchase for snowboarding?
Thanks in advance!

My stepfather fell off his bike and shattered his hip and once he recovered he heard about and did find bicycle shorts that have extra padding/reinforcements or whatever to help prevent this. He had to ask around a lot.
I have never heard of a kidney guard, but if they say so, it must exist? Remember it’s not in your belly where the scar is, it’s nestled really deep into your hip socket area.
Everyone has to decide what level of risk they’re comfortable with. I would never do anything that risky to physically injure my kidney. I was on dialysis and it was awful. Once you’ve had a transplant it will be harder to get another because now you have antibodies and are harder to match.
However, you did not get a kidney just to sit at home for the rest of your life either.
Hi Musical Lover, Congratulations on receiving a transplant. I have a single native pelvic kidney and eGFR 14, located in the front under my belly and above my groin. I practice Taekwondo and use a kick boxing belly protector to protect my kidney from kicks and punches. This is bulky and is a bit of a disadvantage when sparring but I have used it for 15 years now while sparring including in two competitions. I might be a solution for you. It is bulky and I am not sure it would fit under your snow gear. Here is a link to one similar to mine. fightsupplies.eu/twins-blac...
