I was on Meloxicam for arthritis pain. My eye doctor took me off immediately. Please check with your eye doctor about the impact of meloxicam. I have also gained weight and weigh more than I ever have. My sugar is up, but that is my confusion on what my diet should be. This is all a maze to me. I am trying a new nephrologist and will keep you posted.

Most medications are, Im afraid. See below link which includes weight gain and renal side effects, albeit the latter classed as very rare.

No problem. I believe a large % of medications prescribed are not needed, with some exceptions eg penicillin. And I know Nutritional Therapy is far more effective to treat some conditions and certainly for prevention.Of course, users don't generally want to hear that and often get annoyed. But there's plenty scientific evidence.

Hope you have a healthy 2025!!

Meloxicam is a strong NSAID and no one struggling with kidney disease should take NSAIDs at all. They can cause an acute injury and raise BP quite high.

Please always tell every doctor you see that you have kidney disease. I have them write NO NSAIDs on my chart as if I am allegic

oh oh.they know i have kidney disease, the prescribing doc knew before they wrote the script but they wouldnt do any other med.

That is really not acceptable. I live with 1 kidney and 2 kidney diseases. The secondary disease, renal tubular acidosis, can be caused by NSAID use and also can escalate CKD.

I'm sorry your doctor didn't take it seriously. The only pain med I can take is Tylenol but there are also some arthritis gel drugs OTC I can use. They are also NSAIDs but don't go into the bloodstream the way a pill does. If you are still in pain, please consider one of these. The arthritis drug can work for muscle and bone pain, too.

Oh, the gel is Diclofenac Sodium. The most expensive one is brand name Voltaren but there are generics almost everywhere

Yes it is. You have to be above a certain eGFR , creatinine and BUN to be on it. Discontinue it immediately! . Given you have a history of kidney disease your prescriber should have checked and if appropriate put you in the smaller 7.5 mg dosage for no more than ten days.

It’s an NSAID, so yes, it can cause or exacerbate greatly any kidney disease. No reputable doctor should have you on an NSAID regardless of the type and severity of diagnosis in need of it. I’ve seen and lived it. It isn’t a rare side effect, it’s known now to be a cause of kidney disease. Take care, Adrienne
