CBD cream question. I was pretty surprised when the hand surgeon I saw yesterday recommended I use CBD creme on my arthritic thumbs twice a day. I can't take any anti inflammatory drugs because of my chronic kidney disease. Even aspirin is likely to hurt my kidneys. Since I'm on the kidney transplant list I cannot take anything that would show up in a THC blood screening. Legal or not, THC in the blood could get me kicked off the kidney waitlist.
I've tried to research and all I find are warnings to make sure to use a product that has independent laboratory testing and no THC. I know NOTHING about this world. There are several articles supporting its use for arthritis in the thumbs, but no medico is going to recommend a specific brand.
Can anyone suggest a brand that makes a basic creme with CBD and shea butter. No heating or cooling needed.
Thanks!

THC is the psychoactive ingredient in Marijuana, it's the bit that gets you high. CBD is a different ingredient and comes from the hemp plant (which is also a type of Marijuana but contains very little THC, less than 0.3%). I think it is very unlikely that as a cream applied to the skin it would show up as positive for THC in a blood test.
HI Barbara, I used CBD oil for two years and it never showed up on any test. For me, it did little. There is very little THC in it. Make sure when you buy it, you get it from a reputable place. There is a lot of snake oil out there. My bottle was 90 for a month. And like I said, it did nothing. It was recommended by my hematologist.
I use a topical CBD cream on my back, Sagely Naturals relief and recovery formula. It has CBD in it, along with argan oil, menthol and peppermint oil. It does have a slight cooling action, but it's not a real intense thing. It's batch tested, and you can check on it. Also organic, and it's very soothing. I have used it on my knees or my thumb when they act up, and it has helped all of those things. I'm careful not to use too much, but my GP had no issues with me using it. If you are searching out other brands, look for broad spectrum CBD. That usually has little to no THC in it. FULL spectrum CBD, even though it is hemp and not marijuana, does have a little THC in it. There are so many companies offering CBD products, it's like entering a hurricane when you start trying to find one.
Here's a list of all the ingredients in the one I use: Relief & Recovery CBD Cream Full ingredients: Water (Aqua), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Menthol, Capryloyl Glycerin/Sebacic Acid Copolymer, Cetearyl Glucoside, Stearic Acid, Xanthan Gum, Marula (Sclerocarya Birrea) Seed Oil, Diheptyl Succinate, Cannabis Sativa Extract (Hemp CBD), Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil (Hemp), Tocopherol, Argan (Argania Spinosa) Kernel Oil, Safflower (Carthamus Tinctorius) Seed Oil, Peppermint (Mentha Piperita) Oil, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Glyceryl Caprylate
There is no shea butter in this one, but I think the other oils are very soothing, and I have very sensitive skin. It is expensive to get a good one, but you use very little of it. I buy the extra strength one, and only use about 3 pumps of the bottle in one day. The bottle lasts me a month. It's normally $55 for the bottle, but I wait for sales and by a few on sale. I've tried other things, but I keep coming back to this one. (And I don't work for them, or receive any compensation for mentioning their brand, etc.)
My mom doesn't have kidney disease but she has really bad arthritis so I bought her some CBD cream. It works for a couple hours then more has to be applied. She's 87 so not much else she can do.
I have used cbd with limited sucess the best thing i have found for arthritis pain is bee venom ointment,i buy it from Amazon and it is really good ,i have ckd and it appears to be safe
Hi Barbara, I, two have arthritis in my thumbs and have a kidney transplant. Are you able to use arthritis formula Tylenol? I use it twice a day, 8 hrs apart. I also use a few non drug treatments. In chair yoga, I do hand and finger exercises like placing your fingertips together, then just rotate around two fingers at a time, starting with your thumbs. Rotate forward 3 times, then backward 3 times. Repeat with each finger. When you're done, gently shake your hands and fingers. Then rotate your wrists forwards and backwards three times. Another one is to close your fists, then open your fingers wide , again three times. A good one is to use one hand to gently grasp the other thumb between the two knuckles , wiggle it and pull the thumb out to the tip . Repeat with all fingers, then do the other hand. All these exercises serve to loosen up the joints where the arthritis sets in and alleviate pain. Also, when I just can't bear it I wear my arthritis gloves for as long as possible for support. I also have a thumb support ( I can't remember what it's called) that I got from a hand therapist. Another possibility is to use Arnicare gel on your thumbs. My nephrologist says that's okay. Hopefully a combination of these things will help you - don't give up!
I use the generic because it costs less, basically it is acetaminophen extended relief 650 mg tablet that lasts 8 hours. It is not like aspirin or NSAIDS, so nephrologists recommend it for pain relief for kidney patients. But you must be careful to not take too much each day because it can hurt your liver. Follow the instructions on the bottle. Also, I think it's best to do the exercises to keep your hands and fingers mobile rather than to just rely on the thumb support that holds your thumb immobile. Both relieve pain.
I am at CKD 3b and have neuropathy. My neurologist prescribed Tylenol for pain and it works for me. He is aware of my CKD. I use it when have a high level of pain and it works for me. I am a senior also.
.Oh, I'm sorry. Just try the hand and finger exercises and get a referral to a hand therapist. I now use the Yoga Vista you tube videos for chair yoga and dance. You can find some of the hand and finger exercises on them. Good luck!
