Hi All,My GP has just informed me that my eGFR has gone from 82 to 60. She asked me if I have had a urine infection or taken any Ibuprofen. I said no to both. I feel fine.
She said she will discuss with a colleague and will arrange a hospital appointment for me, if required.
Is this result anything to be concerned about?
TIA

Hi there, a drop in eGFR could be concerning, but it's good that your GP is taking it seriously and arranging further evaluation. Keep track of any new symptoms and follow up as needed.
I suspect theres a good chance they will do nothing because you have retained a good function level. But Id push them to investigate the drop more thoroughly including urine tests followed by serum retesting later.
I'm going through exactly the same thing at the moment. I've gone from 90 to 56 and I've had some symptoms. At the moment they are thinking it could be the medication so they've taken me off it. In a week since off the medication I've gone to 57 so they are tracking my egfr but it's a worry
I stopped taking 40mg Simvastatin and 10mg Amitriptyline a few weeks ago. Prior to this I had been experiencing numbness in my limbs and aching muscles. My GP said it was nerve pain and suggested taking the Amitriptyline. But I researched the statins and found that they can cause nerve pain (I had been taking them for 12 years). I have also had Osteoarthritis for about 20 years and read that this can also cause numbness and tingling 🤦Hence why I am no longer taking these medications. I don't think this is related to my eGFR drop and my GP didn't make comment.
You no longer take simvistatin? Are you replacing it with something else? I have read that statins can be unsafe for CKD patients. My nephrologist said that is incorrect. 🤷🏻♀️
I have been Statin free for the past few weeks and not replacing it with anything. Eating the right foods (which we do anyway) and getting into exercise is my goal. Very early days yet though... 😊
I'm diabetic and take metformin. They have taken me off metformin and I had started trillicity but I no longer take that either as it was making me even worse. I'm really hoping my efgr continues to go up. Prior to that I'd been ill for a couple of years starting with low b12 and iron, groin and hip pain and sudden loss of weight. Bruising, breathing difficulties and severe weakness especially in my legs. I see haematologist again in September so hoping for some answers
Please remember other things need to be taking into consideration when diagnosing CKD not just the EGFR reading. Potassium, sodium , urea levels in a blood test need to be looked at , protein in urine should all also be looked at not just the EGFR. In UK a EGFR of 60 is considered normal providing other readings in blood as mentioned are in normal range. Many things can alter EGFR , dehydration, pain medication etc.
Appreciate this post! I was at a 98 efgr in October, now efgr is 88. My other numbers look good, but I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes this month. Restless night full of worry. Reading your comment has settled me a bit. Now I can focus on improving my health and preparing to speak more intelligently with my doctor.
