Simply out im constipated and would like some suggestions about whats worked for other people before things get worse.
I called my regular doc yesterday who said 1-2 liters of water per day/25-30 grams fiber.
Ive read davita.com and it seems basically im eating a lot things on the list but maybe not enough and, of course, everything good for everybody else is bad for us 😾
Ive been eating only 2 prunes a day ... because of potassium ... plus drinking an 8 oz bottle if apple juice every other day.
Im calling my kidney doc this morning and will be going to the grocery this afternoon and wonder about "old favorites" any of you have ... like triscuits for evening snack ? Are they any good ?

You will be able to get it under control. Had this frustration too, especially when started diet. My gastro Doctor gave recommendation. Eat more grain and have Greek Yogurt, so combine them. I have as a grain serving cereal instead of bread for example and Greek Yogurt for my daily dairy serving. (On my diet can have 5 grain servings a day and 1 serving of dairy in specific amounts). Works for me.
This renal diet is many adjustments in eating habits and food exchanges for what works. After a while it becomes part of daily routine.
Thanks 😸 Both you and bet suggested greek yogurt which im going to look into again. I tried it years ago but found it a little bitter but guess i'll try again. Maybe combining it will help.
I'll also figure out a way to combine both of your suggestions as they seem feasible.
I got cinammon chex ... dont know why since i like rice chex bith were there.
When i finish the raisin toast and/or animal crackers i'll start on those.
I also got a locally-made commercial greek yogurt since i like the company's products.
I really dont want to get wound up in meds ! Except "good" ones.
Ive had docs offer me hydrocordone and tramadol when i had shingles and elavil for what is considered a hysterical woman's problem and said i'll deal with it (meaning none of those meds) thank you very much !
So im really interested in the Chex and yogurt.
Bet117 seems to have a good suggestions to try which im going to look into.
I apologize for not responding to your last post as in got passed me in lieu of David's getting a nasty sinus infection.
I can relate to the constipation. It is miserable!
I take 2 tbsps of Calcium Magnesium Citrate Liquid + D 3 each morning and 2 in the evening and have for years. It has been the only thing to work for me, as it is a natura salt, not sodium and works with the water in your colon. Not a drug
It also gives you the calcium and magnesium good for your bones
This is different than the product that you take as a procedure prep.
You can buy this on line at VitaWorld (Vitamin Wotld) or if you look on Amazon, they sell it ..Blue Bonnet or Solgar is one of their brands. If you have a health food store near your home, I am sure they will carry it.
Vita World sells it with orange, blueberry or strawberry taste.eh..a bit chalky, but it works.
Vita world introduced this to me about 6 years ago and my GI has been happy with the results.
In both cases, it can be shipped right to your door.
Continue to drink plenty of water as well. Like OC, I also eat Greek Yogurt 2tbsp. In the morning as well. Lite and Fit is my favorite.
Hi again. Looks like mag cit comes in 400 or 500 mg. Which would you suggest.
Ive also orddred some halvah which is sesame candy which is supposed to be good for you but has high sugar so can't eat much. Its supposed to have "good stuff" in it and helps constipation ???
Check again..This is Calcium Magnesium Citrate Liquid. I believe that it is standard.
Magnesium Citrate comes in tablets. They do work.
I prefer the Cal Mag Citrate +D3 as it is liquid and easier on the stomach.check it out.
Believe it or not, halavah was in my house since I was a kid. It is sesame seeds. I don't remember my grandparents or parents having laxative effects. It is like a dessert.
Take a look at vita world. They ship it right to your door and replace any broken bottles if you call the 877 number.
David and I met in 1999 and were married in 2003..It seems like yesterday.
Google vita world and take a look at this. It is a natural remedy. Because it is liquid you can modify the amounts.
My vitamin D level fluctuates with it but it works...and no distress.
If you take any meds as Lisinopril..etc. take this first and the Lisinopril at least an hour after. ( I checked with the directions and then the pharmacist. )
Hi 😸 Im not jewish but i sure wish we had a jewish deli here. Its like my calif daughter who has a nearby health food store/restaurant which is great ! We've got some vitamin stores but healthfood meals are a turkey sandwich.
It's nice having legitimate site information info. Thanks.
No real snow here yet ... sw mo ... but probably later this week and it looks like i may have a job interview.
The feeling generally is that if you live too far from work to get there in the bad weather, move closer.
I actually agree ... unless im the on thats driving !
Hi bet 😸 We're in sw missouri and can easily get snow here. Not usually as often here as you but we've had some bad winters.
Assisted living rooms become open frequently but we wont go till we cant live without help. We dont even "qualify" yet. I just want to be on the list for when necessary.
My halvah has been ordered thru amazon by joyva ??? And is supposed to be here in about a week.
Hi bet. The halvah arrived today and is just as i remembered tho a little more crunchy. If you liked it before you'll like it now. I hope it's still ok for you to eat.
We'll see how it turns out for me next month at my doc appt.
Thanks. I'll recheck that a little later. I didnt have a chance to really research it earlier. What i pulled up earlier defaulted to amazon. I'll take my time to look at it when i get home.
Grapes always worked for my son but sometimes had to use suppository. Although hasn't happened in a long while and I think that might be cause taking a probotic daily.. cultural desgestive one. Not sure of all your situations medically but that is what worked for him. Hope it helps or somebody makes suggestion that does. Take care.
Thanks scooby 😸 I am open to all healthy suggestions. I know that what works for someone else might not work for me but i like having some choices. Thanks again.
OKRA, always works...lots of iron, but it ends constipation. I love boiled okra with apple cider vinegar & even drink the juice, Breaded okra might be ok but I save the bread carbs for another treat (toast w/coffee) Seriously, try a little okra. It's very low in saturated fat and sodium, and very low in cholesterol. Also a good source of protein, Riboflavin, Niacin, Phosphorus, and Potassium (caution?) Zinc and Copper, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Thiamine, Vitamin B6, Folate, Calcium, Magnesium and Manganese...
PS Okra has a gummy texture, tastes somewhat similar to eggplant. Yes... Benefits include:
Preventing and improving constipation.
Lowering cholesterol.
Reducing the risk of some forms of cancer, especially colorectal cancer.
Improving energy levels and improving symptoms of depression.
Helping to treat sore throat, irritable bowel, ulcers and lung inflammation.
Okra consists of a protein known as Lectin. There is evidence present that Lectin extracted from Okra has the potential to slow down the growth of and even kill breast cancer cells.
