Hello, I am curious if anyone has gotten off of Linsinopril and seen an increase of their GFR. Ive been on the medication for six years now and my blood pressure has gotten better so I am getting off of it. My GFR is at 30. I hoping it will give me a bump!
CkD & Lisinopril: Hello, I am curious if... - Kidney Disease
CkD & Lisinopril
I haven't heard anything like that myself but please keep me posted. Wishing you well!
hi
I was able to lower my BP enough my Dr took me off of my BP med lisinopril. I did not see an improvement in my GFR.
It might give you a bump, when you start taking ACE inhibitors it can lower your GFR, up to 30% I most cases (I think because the flow of blood through your kidneys is reduced). The effect is usually reversible once you stop taking the medication but it doesn’t mean your kidneys are suddenly “healed”, CKD damage is usually irreversible.
Sorry no personal experiences re GFR but good news that you're off the drug, particularly in view of the potential side effects had you stayed on any longer nhs.uk/medicines/lisinopril...
Just a query. Presumably your "blood pressure has gotten better" whilst on the drug so is it not expected to increase again when youre off it - or is it a lifetime "cure"?
My mum weaned herself off Bisoprolol years ago but only once her BP had improved due to a Nutritional Therapy protocol which she has maintained since, keeping her BP normal.
Hopefully you've checked with your Dr. Stopping medications on your own can have unintended consequences. I was on Lisinopril for years - to protect my kidneys. I did not have HBP, but I was T2D. they took me off Lisinopril and all my oral T2 drugs when my eGFR got in the 30s. Metformin is contraindicated with CKD and since my kidneys were shot there wasn't anything lisinopril would protect
I was on lisinopril not for my blood pressure, but for my kidneys until my transplant. It was used to help with the inflammation in my nephrons. While your situation is different, because of the mechanics, I don't think it would go up off of it.
I don't think it will go up because once damaged it's usually not reversible, but it may help with slowing down any further damage. Everyone is different though. Glad you were able to get off of it. I was on it for about 15+ years and had a Transplant 1 1/2 yrs ago. Good luck with everything, hope it stays stable for you.
