creatinine levels… please help

hi all,

As I mentioned in an earlier post my creatinine levels have been rising since 2022 and my eGFR dropped from over 90 in 2021 to 89, 80, 75, 69 and now 67 (With a creatinine of 82).

I looked back at all of my blood results and in 2010 and 2011 where I would have been ages 28 and my creatinine level was 85 and 86 which would have made my eGFR 68 at that time. It then went back up and was over 90 in 2018 and 2021 with a creatinine of 65, which I find odd…I was not doing anything different back in 2010 and 2011 that I can remember.

I guess what I’m asking is why this has been so up and down and is there a chance it may go up again? Has anyone had experience of this before?

I have no protein or blood in urine, my ACR was normal and all of my bloods and autoimmune screen bloods normal along with ultrasound scan.

What could be the cause of this? Could anyone shed any light please… I am very very anxious and scared

I am now aged 40

many thanks and best wishes.

So many things can impact your numbers. Things to think about: were you working out? Did you drink less water? Were you taking ibuprofen or any other medications. Were you partying more, sleeping less, eating poorly? Were you highly stressed? The GFR goes down as we age, but not as fast as yours is.

To answer the question of can it go back up. Yes, GFR fluctuates. It can be a matter of being hydrated at the time of the test. Or a different lab doing the test. The thing is that you have a steady decline. I would suggest this would be a good time to talk to a renal dietician and see if improving your diet will help. It could be that easy. Make sure you keep getting labs done to see if the decline continues.

With a decline like that I would consider going to a Nephrologist. It's not an alarming level but the decline seems consistent. Do you have hypertension at all? There might be drugs you can start taking to help preserve kidney function. Seeing a dietician is a good idea.

No I don’t have hypertension, my blood pressure is good

You had already good advise from other members. Only thing I would add don't be too focused only on creatinine. All renal panel matters and being you I would be much more concerned about proteinuria (you don't have) instead of creatinine. Rgs

Morning, first thanks for sharing your heart.

Second, Breathe, slow breath and slow exhale

Third, You have been given a lot of great advice, no that you are not alone

Lastly, after an elevated creatinine for years I’m know pressing my physician to wake up.

My Nephrologist ordered a 24 hour urine for creatinine clearance and protein

A CT scan - didn’t show much so know,

A MRI - of abdomen and pelvis to check kidneys

Blood work - fasting

And a Rena Sight Genetic Testing

Please get an excellent work up.

Hope and Blessings to you

Hi, my creatinine was 123 and a week later after drinking more fluids which I did not do, prior this result creatine down to 82. Other bloods normal, urine sample normal. Kidney scan normal. Cause dehydration. So it could something as simple as that. Get repeat blood and hydrate well. Don't eat a ot of meat before text also. This can alter your result. I like you checked my egfr levels and they fluctuated over the last twenty yrs, I'm 56 yrs now. There is no dramatic change since being in my twenties . It's just me so my GP said. A EGFR in UK over 60 is normal provided other bloods like urea, potassium, sodium are normal and urine sample clear, no protein so all ok.

My lab results only show greater than 60, or a specific number below 60. The calculation (and therefore the result) is less accurate above 60 to the point my Dr's consider anything over 60 as normal.

That is not to say that this isn't a valid trend and worth looking into. But don't stress yet.

Also the formula for calculating eGFR changed recently (2 years ago?), so you would have to run the whole formula again. It takes into account a lot more than just creatinine. I sometimes have the same creatinine with different eGFRs or vice-versa.

First, don't fear. What one fears comes.

I just wrote this morning what I am doing. I have no idea what you are eating or how often you are eating. I choose to pull out all stops and learn this body. What makes it work.

I am 75 and a lot older than you. After learning I gave up sugar which I love and still crave but I don't choose the sugar and end up on dialysis. I am working on eating once a day for my body to heal itself. I have not gotten there yet, but I only eat during a 6 hour window and then stop. If I get hungry I drink coffee or green tea. It's for healing.

Fruits with seeds is for healing. Educate yourself if you have not started doing that. I also am learning from his Holistic doctor on YouTube. Actually I listen to a lot of them and praying.

I have checked on all the medications and have cut back, or cut out the ones that damage my body organs. Yes, I discuss it with my doctor. My medications has been harming my kidneys and I was not aware.

I wish I had eaten a meatless and sugar free diet my whole life, but never to late to change.

I don’t have anything additional to offer to what appears to be sound advice. I just wanted to compliment you for feeling free to ask the question and I want to praise the members who stepped up to offer opinions. I find this to be a very wonderful forum. I wish you the best .
