I was frustrated because I couldn't decide on an eating plan because of pre-diabetes and stage 3b kidney disease, one kidney., as well as high cholesterol The insurance wouldn't pay for a renal dieticians until stage 4. We moved back to NC from FL and I returned to my Primary Care doc. Because of a grant they received I am able to see a nutritionist and she is incredible. I now have a prescribed eating plan for my conditions. The peace of mind is wonderful and I can eat some of my favorite foods again.
Update: I was frustrated because I couldn't... - Kidney Disease
Update
there are no renal dieticians in the area i live in so you are one lucky individual
Way to go!
So happy for you that you can still eat foods that you enjoy knowing that they’re also good for your conditions
Yes. I'm happy to have a healthy direction to follow. Downside I have to give up shellfish and mushrooms. Upside I can have avocado and tomato
Why shellfish? Too salty? I still eat prawns. Maybe I shouldn’t
Interested to know why you can't eat mushrooms? And I'm happy you got the support you needed, and don't have to stress about food anymore! I get it!
Mushrooms are on the list of being high in Potassium.
Thank you! Thankfully, I'm my potassium is normal right now, but will keep an eye on it. I eat a lot of mushrooms!!
That is great you got a CKD dietitian to help you. I live in FL, and on Medicare, and cannot get a dietitian until stage 4. I was diagnosed at 3b. I was given a CKD appropriate diet by my Primary Doctor and it has helped slow the progression. I do now have a NP monitoring my CKD. Keep us posted.
Peace of mind is wonderful! Glad you found someone you trust to guide you to that happy place!
how often does your dietician plan to review your labs?
