In October 2022 my GFR was 70, which I thought was a bit low as I was in early 50s. It’s now 54. Had ultrasound of kidneys, they seem fine, no protein in urine. What could be causing this? My sister had a kidney removed last year and was told hers was a genetic form of cancer, hence the testing. GP seems unconcerned.

GPs always seems "unconcerned " until your kidney function gets to stage 3. My advice especially with a family history..is to push for this to be investigated. Its your health. I wish I had pushed for answers when my function declined. Start looking at your diet and lifestyle and do it NOW!! All the best x
I was very lucky that my GP became concerned immediately. Push and push and push for a referral to a nephrologist. But in the meantime, you can start making lifestyle changes to help your kidneys .... drink lots of water, add in a plant-based diet, low impact exercise. There are loads of websites with good information for you, I found kidney.org to be a good start.
