My recent bloodwork shows 38 egfr and creatine of 1.7. Everything else is within range or even ideal. My hands are swollen, red, throbbing and somewhat itchy. I showed my doc and we thought cleaning chemicals. Could this be kidney related? I have one kidney

Everything can be kidney related. What did the doctor say.... cleaning chemicals....so no, probably not CKD related, especially at the GFR you are. Wear gloves when you use chemical and cleaning products.

Chemical burns often take a while to appear. And if you did not wash your hands off, the burn can go deep and not show up for a while. Even products such as vinegar or bleach left on the skin can cause burns. I would check back with the doc in a couple of weeks if they do not get better.

How about referring yourself to an allergist or dermatologist and get evaluated see if there's an allergic reaction involved. Hopefully, someone can recommend some treatment. I'm sure this condition is interfering with your daily activities. Goodluck

Itching can be caused by all kinds of irritants. One time I tracked it down to a change in the formula of my laundry soap. See a dermatologist or allergist, though not all are good and may blame stuff without testing.

do you have neuropathy or arthritis in your hands by any chance? I have nerve endings that misfire at times which can cause terrible itching on my forearms and thumbs. I’ve literally bruised the base of my thumb from scratching, which in turn also caused superficial cuts from my nails. Once it starts, it’s difficult to stop. Ice has helped calm it down.

My itching is not that bad, but I did scratch hard enough to cause abrasions. My doc thinks it's a chemical burn which is quite possible.

I hope it resolves itself. Best to you.
