My husband on dialysis is still suffering from rash and severe itching for months. He has tried every creme, prednisone in high doses, oatmeal baths, etc...Nothing helps except ice packs for a short time.I read that the FDA approved the drug Korsuva for treatment of CKD-aP but I can't find with research and phone calls whether medicare will cover it. Dialysis center says no. Has anyone had any experience with this?

I am a caregiver to my mil, who suffers from severe itching and has dialysis three days a week. FDA approved Korsuva after phase III of clinical trials. I have not seen any patient reviews on it. Most reviews are by the company itself or by the pharmaceutical companies. Reading the results from the published paper looks promising. Medicare and Medicaid cover it. It also depends on whether your dialysis agency has signed the contract to receive the medication.

I have been trying to get korsuva for last 3 months from the Davita center

Some patients get it there, but they tell me my mom's insurance does not have a contract with Korsuva. I have to change insurance or center to receive the treatment.

We had a conference call with the social worker and the doctor assigned, and they told us they couldn't do much about it.

Not finding actual patient reviews is frustrating, too. I don't want to rely on what the pharmacy is stating. I want actual patient reviews.

We are in Florida. Can you tell me what state your Davita was in?

Thank you. I called kidney advocate organization to see if they could help yesterday. Waiting for a response from them also. The itching is relentless. They are putting my husband on gabapentin next week to see if it helps. It works on the nerves. If it does, I will let you know.

My mil has been on gabapentin and it didn't help her. They also tried benadryl

Apologies! The message was sent by accident. Benadryl was tried, too, but failed. UV light therapy has started last week. We are waiting to see the results. The dermatologist has tried 2 lotions, but they did not help with the itching.

Thank you so much.

Have you tried contacting the drug company directly? Sometimes drug companies have patient assistance programs.

Do they need to increase his Dialysis Prescription?...He may not be getting rid of enough toxins...Or he may have an Allergy to the type of Dialysis he is on..or some food he is consuming..

Could be allergic to dialyser. They can change it.

What is dialyser? They had to take him off heparin because he developed anti bodies to it and his platelet count went way low.

The dialyser is the tube that the blood goes through.

How would you know if he was allergic to the type they use?

I had something similar. Wouldn't go away. No matter what doctors tried. Finally, doctor ordered. BENEDRYL 25mg. I came home from hospital and continued benadryl. No more rash or itching. Hope this helps. Do check with your doctor first.

He has tried Benedryl over the counter and also Ceterizine but neither helped. Thank you.
