If you still peeing, kidneys are working

my boyfriend was on dialysis for 4 years and the doctor working there maybe assisted him twice a year, at the beginning 2019 he was still peeing and after 3 years later same, he never skipped dialysis and he was constant with the medicine, he never listened to me before to get some vitamins with his diet and the kidneys would be restored, at the dialysis center they just drained him as much as possible and never care about his person, we went to the hospital twice and those times the creatinine went down by 3 points in one month meanwhile at the dialysis center in 4 years just went down 3 points, after these years of dialysis, he’ stared to develop high blood pressure, and then anemia, and once he couldn’t pee any more, he started to retain water in his legs and heart, his platelets were down and just a small flu got him really sick and he passed away, there was a lot of negligence with the dialysis center and I just want to work on some awareness for the kidney disease and kidney failure,

I am so sorry for your loss. Making people aware of CKD is always a good thing. But scaring people and talking about mistreatment is going to make people not want to do dialysis when they need it. Unfortunately, You boyfriend was part of a bad situation. It's too bad he did not report the center before things got bad. Taking vitamins would not have restored his kidneys. There is no cure or manor of curing CKD. It may have made him stronger and healthier, but not fix CKD. That's a fact. I hope for you that you have a good support system to help you. We are here for you.

Sorry for your loss. I'm also sorry that even though your boyfriend was a compliant patient. his treatment did not go well. I think that what alot of us have learned is that if you don't want to get pushed around or neglected or not treated well, you have to speak up. You have to advocate for yourself. You have to ask questions, you have to get answers, you have to report problems. And, you don't stop until issues are resolved or attended to. I only wish the best for you as journey through your grief.

You’re right, during those past 4 years he never asked questions, and I think at the end I knew more about his condition than him,

My condolences but you are mistaken if you believe vitamins will cure kidney failure. There is no cure only treatments...ever a transplant won't cure just treat. If he had an ACUTE kidney failure then yes it can get better. I'm in kidney failure, eGFR of 9 for what that is worth, still pee and I'm in dialysis three days a week. I still feel great, still work full time, walk on my treadmill every day. So dialysis, especially hemodialysis is what you make of it. I asked and still do lots of questions about the machine and what was going on. They ask me how much I want to take off and I pretty much stay close to my dry weight. Make sure you learn what that is and that will help when they want to take too much off.

If you are on Facebook, there is a good group called Living on Dialysis and several others. This is a good place too in order to start learning. If you know then it's not scary it's just another way to live.

Thank you so much for the support, he used to work and lived a normal life like yours, but it was a little kidney function that helped him kept going, please try to monitor your progress and, try to keep the remaining function of your kidneys .

Hello: I offer my severe condolences to you for the loss of your boyfriend. As others have said, there is no cure for Kidney Failure, only treatments of dialysis, transplant and for those out of the USA, drastic change in diet to delay these treatments.

I'm in Stage 5 End Stage Kidney Failure with the most recent eGFR of 10 in June this year. I still urinate and have no clinical symptoms, yet, which require me to initiate dialysis or a transplant. Though, I know that may be on the horizon soon. How soon or late, neither my Nephrologist or myself know when that could be. I still feel great, exercise, and eat a Whole Foods Plant Based Very Low Protein Diet. I'm an advocate in my own health care for friends and family. I'm retired and do lots of research because physicians don't know everything and don't always know best. Again, my sincere condolences. As time passes by, you will get over this but keep in mind what you learned for those you know. You are your own best advocate for you and those you love and care about. This place is a good place to seek advice. And if you don't know something, don't be afraid to ask, or look it up. Regards,

Thanks for the support, and please I do recommend to get a transplant as soon as possible so your health is not deteriorating more, and after getting it keep your diet and vitamins

I am so sorry. This is a relentless disease and not many people pay attention until it affects them personally or someone they love. Just because your kidneys are working to make urine does not mean they are filtering out enough toxic substances to keep you from becoming very ill or even dying.

As far as vitamins saving people with kidney issues, you are entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts. Nephrologists first study for four years of college, study general medicine for 4 years of medical school, three years of residency and two to three years as a fellow. Once you’ve spent that amount of time on it, you can talk about vitamins. Otherwise, I’m going to listen to a doctor with 10 to 14 years of experience.

That’s what my boyfriend told me when I first advice him to get vitamins, and be on top his health and I can believe the doctors from years ago wanted to help people, but nowadays is all business, the facts that I have is that he’s not here right now, and my nutrition, diet and lifestyle was and is still different as him, and my blood test are almost 100% perfect . And if you want more facts, I have all his blood work done since the beginning and I saw an improvement, maybe situations changed, but since the beginning he supposed to go for some time and now he’s dead. Just check this results, 2019 creatinine 20, after one month in dialysis at the hospital went down to 12 after that, 4 years in dialysis went down to 9, January 2024 one month at the hospital, creatinine went down to 4.9, the fact, dialysis centers are all business
