Hello Everyone, Does anyone also have diastolic dysfunction of the heart due to blood pressure issues? I have CKD also.

Heart problems too
Did a cardiologist tell you that as a result of a test, or was this just an "opinion"? A GI Dr was trying to blame a condition I temporarily had 3 years ago on my heart. So I went to a cardiologist and had the heart echocardiogram, and he did say I had a slight diastolic dysfunction. (that is another term for congestive heart failure, btw.)
Had a follow up test a year later, and no mention of said disfunction! He said the test was fine and my heart was strong. Take it with a grain of salt. I believe that dr was just trying to make the other dr not sound like an idiot. I am now stage 5 CKD and my heart is still ok.
Unfortunately, the APRN I talked to confirmed I do have stage 2 diastolic dysfunction and 2 valves moderately leaking. I’m seeing cardiology on Oct. I’m hoping I can just manage it along with the kidney disease, I don’t want surgery of any kind . Thank you for your reply
i have stage 2 chronic heart failure and they said it was due to a combination of the wrong bp meds and diabetes.big question mark here but i cant get inv to see my cardio till may of next year
Hi S_dillow. Mine is also because of BP medications as they made my BP too high. And I couldn’t get an appt til May but I told my nephrologist and he got me in this year. Do you have symptoms? I do.
yes i do .shortness of breath,loss of appetite,wheezing,dry cough,swelling of the legs,feet,,etc
also CKD 3b
From personal contacts, DD seems to be getting more common. For example, my brother in law (aged 44) was just diagnosed although his medical team is not overly concerned about it.
It appears that treatment is only considered over age 40 (1st link below). Note that there is natural treatment/management as well as allopathic (link 2) but I dont know if the natural treatment is as successful as it is for CKD.
After the second ER visit to the hospital in June the attending doctor took the time and made the effort to look at the echocardiogram from a recent stress test. There he discovered diastolic heart failure that had been missed previously. It explained the congestion deep in my lungs and resulting shortness of breath. It's early stage, apparently, and I did see the NP in the cardiology department of my clinic. I have an appointment in Dec. to see the cardiologist.
I've been instructed to limit my fluids to 1.5L, that is to include ALL fluids. He said my kidneys are fine although I've been diagnosed with stage 3A CKD which is of course not too worrisome at this point. My heart is more concerning. The fluid restriction is working to keep my ankles free from swelling and the shortness of breath non-existent. I use an oximeter to keep tabs on 02 levels and so far so good. I adhere to a cardio/Mediterranean diet, don't smoke or drink alcohol. I do miss a glass of wine now and then but I enjoy breathing more.
Watching cholesterol, sat fat and salt caused a weight loss I didn't need but did contribute to a lowering of BP. I'm now in the low 100's over 60's. That might explain the occasional tiredness or it might be a side effect of the heart failure, perhaps I'll find out at my visit.
I was pretty concerned and sometimes really down at first but I feel good and a lot more hopeful now. I hope, Sarah, you will too.
Thank you Reese4 for your reply. Mine has been going on for a year. I told the dr last October something was wrong, I was short of breath and coughing. I’m still disappointed it was not caught sooner, but I’m slowly accepting it. Thanks for listening and the suggestions. I’m seeing the cardiologist in October, so I’m hoping it goes well.
