Awaiting blood test result

fartikins profile image
20 Replies

I am still waiting - I went for my health check yesterday and the nursing assistant wasn't qualified to read the test results out. So nearly 2 weeks after the blood was taken I am no nearer to knowing what my gfr etc is. This country is a right shambles (UK)

I know sometimes the anxiety of waiting for test results can be too much. I just kept telling myself that no matter how worried I am, it won't change the results, might as well wait patiently.

I used to be like you, have to wait for my doctor to tell me the results. Then I realized that I was able to obtain a copy myself from the place where I did my blood test. I obtained a copy, at first it looked greek to me. Then I went online and searched for those names in the results and have a good understanding of what they mean and represent, and if the numbers were too low or too high. I know I still have to wait for my doctor to brief me on the results as his/hers are the final words. But at least what I found out myself will give me some kind of peace of mind.

If you can obtain a copy, maybe you can try to interpret it yourself until you are able to get hold of your doctor. I don't know about UK, but in US, we should be able to obtain a copy.

Sit tight, fartikins,

Soon you will have your results. As I told you prior, it's like sitting on an egg waiting for it to hatch. Very frustrating.

In the meantime, be sure to take care of yourself; breathing- deep breath, hold it as you count to four and releasing the breath to the count of four and repeat several times.

Do keep your mind busy, get plenty of rest even if you just relax in bed or a chair with nice music and tea or something on the telly.

To interpret results that you're not sure about may be just as frightening.

Continue to call the ordering consultants office and see if the surgery nurse has them.

They will be in soon!

Know that we are all behind you!

I know that it's frustrating, but continue to ring up the ordering doctor's office and tell them that you have been waiting two weeks for these results. Make an appointment to see the doctor or surgery nurse.

Stay positive!

Fartikins,

I'm so very sorry to hear of Natalie's passing. Think of all the wonderful gifts that she gave to both her family and the world; all that she cherished and carry them on and out for her.

Let her courage guide and her memory be a blessing.

thanks for your reply - I am scared so much now - we have no healthcare to talk of in the uk now. you can't get to see a doctor unless you pay big money which after 53 years of working I can't imagine how much I have paid into a system that is no longer fit for purpose.

no reason to be scared... we pay big money here all the time.. ad many people still have no health coverage...We need to take care of ourselves...and sadly it is we... senior citizens that are killing the system...peole is yhe usa loose all their money and homes because of health care..so regardless of its problems.. in many ways it is better than wwwhat we have..like i said my young step daughter dies because of Texas no health care,,,... start seeing the glass half full

Hello - thanks for that. It is very hard to decide what to do and it is making me feel very anxious. I suffer with depression and insomnia which if I go on to dialysis is going to make things worse for me. I keep thinking about going down the conservative care route although I still have some life left in me. Just to think this time last year I was a normal person - how fate intervenes.

Have you thought about talking to a therapist? I talked to a therapist last year, not health related, and was happy that I did. It's a relieve that if you can talk to someone about problems.
