At stag 3a. Wanted to know if bread, wild rice, skinny pop popcorn is okay for your kidneys. I love to cook, tried vegan 2 yes. Improved kidney function. Went on Keto plan and creatine went up. GFR declined.

What to Eat for CKD 3a
Interesting that Keto made your CKD worse. Diets are tricky. I believe in whole foods, not processed is the way to go. Sticking with plant based is very hard. I have also found for me, that it was not giving me enough nutrients and I started to feel bad. I have added very limited chicken, like once or twice a month, and eggs, mostly egg whites maybe once a week, back into my diet. At stage 3a without other comorbidities like diabetes, just watching you protein intake and monitoring sugar will help. Keep hydrated also.
Popcorn is a wonderful snack. Skinny pop is ok.. I think it is dry. Try getting a microwave popcorn popper. NO oil is needed. It is very dry though. In the winter months only, my husband and I have popcorn every Saturday night was we watch movies. It is our treat for the week. Truthfully, I make it the old fashion way in a popcorn maker, and we put butter and salt on it. I buy gourmet popcorn and use real butter. I decided long ago that my CKD was not going to dictate my life completely. I make it mostly for him, but I do have some. I do not eat other things like chips or so forth. Is it good for me? Nope! My choice.
Bread and rice at stage 3a is fine. Carbs are actually ok if you don't have diabetes. They get a bad rap, but we need them for energy. Watch the content in the bread. Manufactured bread often has a ton of salt in it and highly processed.
Thanks for your response!
Just wanted to know what your daily eating plan looks like for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I don't get hungry until around 11. I am not Diabetic, but cholesterol is high, but dropping down. Would like to lose 20 lbs. Not eating meat, or dairy now, but really need help. Most nutrition/ dieticians aren't renal. SMH.
I am on a CKD diet and it limits me on amount of bread and rice. I agree with Bassetmommer on bread issue. I do frequently make my bread using a bread machine so can control sodium etc. That way can enjoy more bread.
I am ckd stage 4, non diabetic and haven’t been told to stop eating carbs.
I love skinnypop as an alternative to chips.
There is low sodium bread you can eat and rice should be okay, just watch for not eating to much of it. But that’s probably true regardless of ckd.

well, I eat turkey, chicken, fish and I do eat some dairy like egg whites and cheese, so not sure I’d be that helpful.
That said onevof my lunches is homemade caesarcwraps with fiber one wraps, light green lettuce, croutons, and Annie’s Caesar dressing. You can also eat coleslawcwith your own dressing.
I have found pasta and rice and vegetables to becan easy vegetarian/vegan meal. I also like tofu.
