Hi there. I was having pains on my left side kidney. I had an ultrasound and then because of the results I was given a scan. It was found I had one kidney that was not fully emptying . The scan didn't show any obstruction as such. Anyway a year later I was called in to Doc's for a blood test and weight check because of my kidney disease I was told? Why do they call it a disease? Regards Sue.
Disease or not? : Hi there. I was having... - Kidney Disease
Disease or not?
When disease was first used, it referred literally to "lack of ease or comfort" rather than to how it is used today to refer to sickness or problems with bodily function. Disease can still be used today to mean "uncomfortable," but there is usually a hyphen as in "dis-ease."
Somehow, I like it better now that they call it Chronic Kidney Disease, rather than the old Renal Failure.
I know it's just semantics, but it makes me feel a bit better, lol
in most of the world they call it kidney failure , no matter what stage your at, i call a problem with my kidneys. people seem to understand that and don't immediately jump to the conclusion that you are going to die tomorrow. most of the time i don't mention it.
I like this idea!
Although personally, like you, I don't mention it to most people, I have learned that launching a discussion about my health or even opening the door leads to myriad conversations and questions I am not interested in talking about.
Happy New Year!
When the Doc summarized your first visit, he/she probably had one of those long sheets of medical issues where they check off athe boxes that apply to each patient. There was probably a box for Kidney Failure, and a box for Kidney Disease, but none for Kidney Complaint.
