Kidney cyst in 12 year old

Hello.

My 12 year old daughter had an US scan a few days ago for recurrent UTI-s, and they incidentally found a small cyst on her left kidney. The sonographer didn’t say much, just that it’s common in adults, but not so much in children.

Obviously, I will ring the GP next week ASAP to discuss the results, but in the meantime I’m beside myself with worry as I understand it’s quite rare in children.

Anyone has any advice on this please?

I’ve had what they call simple kidney cysts since my teens with no problems! Apparently they sometimes get infected but mine never have and I’m 85 years old!

My hubby also has a simple cyst in his kidney (also one in his brain). The cyst never posed a problem, his kidney failure came from diabetes. I suspect many of us have benign simple cysts that simply go unnoticed.
