My 77 year old husband in stage 3b ( 39 GFR) has been anemic (12.2 HgB) for about a year. Few months ago, he went on thyroid supplement because of hypothyroidism. He has been on thyroxine for about 6 months and his TSH is higher than normal. He has never had CV issues and his blood pressure has been maintained normal for over a decade. No proteinuria.
I am concerned about his hypothyroid status ( sub clinical?) due to reports of heart attacks ( he has never had one). Neither the nephrologist nor his PCP has changed any of his list of meds (Metformin, thyroxine, iron, lisnosopril, atorvastatin). They do not seem to be concerned. Any feedback from your experience is welcome and appreciated.

I would recommend talking to Dr. about discontinuing Metformin. It is *not* recommended for those with CKD. Has been shown to cause kidney disease and increase the failure rate. Its definitely worth a discussion. Good luck.
I'm Stage 4 CKD now. I have been Hypothyroid and on Synthroid for 15 years before I ever had CKD.
Has your husband seen an Endocrinologist for his Hypothyroid? I also have Hyperparathyroid but haven't had any treatment like removal of benign tumors.
Thanks, no, he has not seen an endo. The neph said that the PCP should handle his hypothyroidism. The hypothyroidism occurred recently ( few months ago), following his CKD. He was fine until he entered the 3b stage, hence the concern. I read that hypothyroidism manifested at stage 3 increases CV mortality even though he has not had any CV abnormalities.
