I just returned home from the Mayo Clinic after being in the hospital three times, each fo 7-10 days for renal failure over the course of 6 months. I was diagnosed with CKD 5 years ago. Because of damage to bladder, (due sever scary and inflammation from the interstitial cystitis -a dibilitatin autoimmune condition targeting the bladder) urine was backing up through the ureters into the kidneys, causing swelling and kidney failure and damage. The removed my bladder and did a bladder diversion procedure. Dr said it should increase my kidney function quite a bit. I don’t know if your knowledge of my situation might be something anyone can relate to. I’ve followed this site since diagnosed with CKD and so appreciated the wisdom inspiration I have been priledged to receive. Thank you all so much!

Hi Snoochy, i almost thought I had written a post and forgot about it when i read yours as it brought back so many memories. I too had severe interstitial cystitis, the pain can only be understood by someone who has gone through it. I had a young gung-ho consultant at the time who delayed my surgery for years trying all sorts of treatments to hopefully be the man who cured it, including botox injections into my bladder. 4 years on and in absolute agony i told him get this out of my body or i will dig it out my self with a blunt spoon. Eventually had a urinary divertion with a urostomy insitue. That was twenty years ago and i am now CKD stage 4/5 depending on the day they do my tests. I have hed multiple surgeries for hernias, prolapse and dierverticulitis in my colon and have severe post operative adhesions so not a suitable candidate for PD and my veins are shot to peices from over canulation so difficult to do dyalisis which i don't really want anyway so im just plugging along trying to keep healthy and most importantly happy till whatever happens happens. I know thats not for everyone but i am content with my decision. I'm amazed that someone else has had the same problem as i raised it ages ago and no one replied. Please let me know how you are getting on and the journey you have decided on if any. Wishing only good thing. Wilow
