For those with ckd and hyperparathyroidism, what is your pth? What are your symptoms and how are you treating it?
Mine is in the low 400’s and I’m starting to think some of my physical ailments are caused by this.
Thanks!

Hi Jamok, My PTH is less than half of what yours is and it bounces from high to normal. My neph has me taking a bit more VIT 2 and I added fortified with calcium almond milk since I gave up dairy and I am not getting much calcium. We will see if it makes a difference.
My pth levels have been hovering around 1000. The last 3 months it's been around 300. For those on dialysis the "normal" levels are anything below 500. Recommendations are to treat when over 500-750. Ive heard some panic with levels at 120. Blessings
Im struggling to really understand the pth thing. My pth is 165, which im told is nothing to worry about in a stage 5, pre-dialysis setting (GFR 15) My calcium, phosphorus, and vit d levels are all within the normal range, which is the part i dont understand. My understanding is that it is a chain reaction culminating in high pth and a vicious loop of mineral imbalance. Can someone explain to me why all is normal, yet my pth has shot up from 80 in April of this year to 165? At what point will this change, or is it individual for each patient? Many thanks....
As far as I know it is fairly normal to elevate prior to dialysis. I know 165 seems high after maintaining it at 80 , but in the larger picture it isn't. IF it continues climbing and your calcium and phosphorus remain normal they may look at the parathyroids closer. Years ago my pth levels were not treated properly. It wasn't addressed despite my complaints and complications until I changed nephrologists. By that time my levels were well over 3500. Within 3 months they were removed, but the damage was already done. Take a deep breath. Engage your nephrologist and get their take on this. Blessings
You have 4 Parathyroids that sit behind your Thyroid...they are about the size of a piece of rice....unless they become over active and become non-cancerous tumors...about the size of a large pea..they look for Calcium and when they can't find it, they take it from your bones..
3 of my 4 were Tumors....had them removed...by a Surgeon who was an Expert in this Field....Best thing I ever did...
That was over 6 years ago....My Calcium is a perfect 9.5.. (was low to mid 8's).. and my PTH is a perfect 48 to 60...(was 320)...and my bones are much happier...
