Has anybody tried DTS? The studies are absolutely amazing... I bought it, have it and am waiting to hear from my kindy doc about taking it. He is cool so he is actually looking into the studies instead of shooting it down immediately before reading the science. Here is some of the science BTW. If you have not taken this or looked into it before now, this post is not for you. Just wondering if anybody on here has tried it as I likely will. I am a 36 year old male with IGA eGFR between 28-36 for the last 3 years. Eat meat (chicken/fish) once a week, no red meat. No diabetes and am in great physical shape. Just back story a bit. Let me know if you have heard anything or tried this!

Hi MP,It was interesting to look up your links to find out they actually are the same study repeated. I went a bit further and looked up what is in DTS

"The main ingredients of DTS have thousands years of history. Together with our patented extraction process, DTS can provide excellent health effects on the kidneys. Panax pseudoginseng (also known as notoginseng) is a plant. The root is used to make medicine."

And: webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingre...

I am curious what your doctor will say about it since it is a blood thinner and has other side effects

I am curious what he will say as well. I posted the links to show the study listed on multiple accredited sites. I will let everybody knows what he says. I am currently on Farxiga as well as many other drugs so they might conflict which is why I am not taking it without doc approval.

Smart! My hubby is on Farxiga and has had a good kidney improvement. Let us know what comes of the DTS.

Hi MPStilwell, is there any feedback from your Doctor you can share with us please?

Thanks

Hi, my eGFR level was at 55 in December 22, and am diabetic too. I am 53. DTS looks positive from what you have written. How is the DTS working for you? Are you seeing improvement? I am keen to know, considering reputed agencies' such as pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov's tests looks promising.( I have removed the link)

so glad I read this before buying. I’m on warfarin for APS and a mechanical heart valve. I also have Lupus Nephritis so I was so excited to see this supplement and it’s potential to help with my kidneys. Is anybody on this forum taking DTS and on warfarin with no issues?

Also the study in all the publications you listed was done in 2011 on mice, and mainly helped with the oxidation of arteries, but where are the follow up and human studies? Plus googling DTS came up with commercial sites that said the ingredients were patented and seems to be Chinese in origin. Farxiga seems like more of a magic pill than DTS, in that research on humans is extensive, and its actually proven to improve CKD numbers, and its side effects are known. Keep on with the search for good cures, but there are a lot of discouraging aspects to this one. Good luck with Farxiga, hope you've experienced some improvement.

MPStilwell profile image
MPStilwell in reply toWildIris

Well.. This is from JAPAN... Not China.. Looking longer than 5 minutes would have told you that.. And if you go to their Facebook page, you can seem hundreds of humans who have used it with success... Again, this post was for people who have taken or looked into it before. I don't think skimming google is good enough to shoot it down here... The world is large... There are smart people all over it... Saying that its "discouraging" and listing the reasons as "it seems to be of chinese origin" and "the publication was done in 2011 on mice" is not really helpful here. Has anybody even heard about this before? There are literally hundreds (probably thousands) of Japaneses people who have and have seen success. Shouldn't we pay attention? I think our western way of thinking is hindering us in looking elsewhere. We are not the only smart people in the world... Nor do we have all the technology and labs..

I did spend considerably longer than 5 minutes on it. I also took the time to look up your history on this site. I am glad you are on Farxiga and wish you the best. You asked for opinions and provided links and I offered my opinion- I don't think I should be attacked for that. I respect your enthusiasm and hope. There just doesn't seem to be enough published research on it for me. I do like objective science. I also think that substances sponsored by pharmacy companies (not DTS, I assume) are going to have more research and look better online.

WildIris profile image
WildIris in reply toWildIris

I want to add that I have spent a lot of money over the years on unproven cures (and products) with a lot of good internet word-of-mouth, very very few of which have been worth it. Now I just fall for what seems to be good science. Also I certainly didn't mean to imply there was anything wrong with Chinese medicine- It seems generally excellent and time-tested. Japanese too. Its just internet hype for profit that seems gross. Also hostility towards strangers.

MPStilwell profile image
MPStilwell in reply toWildIris

I must have misunderstood you. Why did you mention it was made in China if you didnt mean there was something wrong with that?

Also, just to clarify, I did not ask for your opinion.. My post clearly said "If you have not taken this or looked into it before now, this post is not for you.". The reason I put it in there is that often times when people try to start a conversation about a new therapy/drug/study, etc, it gets shot down by about 4 people in this forum instantly... The convo goes nowhere because these individuals make it there mission to poke as many holes in any sort of hope one finds. We all have CKD and we all know what its like to feel hopeless. Why not encourage hope? No one is drinking bleach to cure themselves here and we all know the importance of consulting our docs before trying anything new. Lets stop this practice and champion hope and hopefully we can all benefit and walk away from this forum feeling better, not worse.

I'm curious...if my kidneys were damaged from high BP can anything out there help? I know there's no cure and my understanding is based on what my biopsy showed that the damage is irreversible. So at best I might keep my eGFR at 22 for a while longer with my BP under control? I have no diabetes but I do have Graves Disease which causes hyperthyroidism.

Just another snake oil salesman with a pitch. Product contains herbal supplements and has recently been linked to kidney hyperfusion and AKI resulting in several deaths. The study and site are completely fake using pictures from NIKKD to add creditably. These are dangerous people only looking to enrich themselves typical of such schemes but death is now on these folks hands. Shameful. You’d think most would realize if the solution was that simple we wouldn’t have a world wide CKD crisis. I have seen this so many times it makes me sick. Surly your parents told you “if it sounds to good to be true it is???”

MPStilwell profile image

I have been on DTS for about 3 and a half months after my doc looked into this and gave the OK. My GFR has gone up from a 28 to a 30 the first month and 30-34 on this last test. I also had Covid in there…

Blackknight1989 profile image
Blackknight1989

I won’t argue the merits with you. I might recommend that you look at guidance on NKF, ASN and NIDDK as to the damage supplements can do to CKD patients. Additionally you may want to look at the studies out there that show barely 15 deaths in the US attributed to this therapy! Also, you might go to PubMed and search “benefits of supplement” especially in CKD compromised folks. There are no benefits only risks. These folks don’t research anything and don’t understand CKD issues. Why would you risk your health when you are most likely benefiting from an improved diet, or a good couple of lab draws or whatever but hot this junk! Finally can you accomplish what this “program” gives you without paying their extortion?

MPStilwell profile image
MPStilwell in reply toBlackknight1989

Can you provide the studies you mentioned about the 15 deaths? I cant find that anywhere. And are you saying that supplements in general are all risk, no benefit? Or this specific one? As you can see, this supplement has been tested on rats with good success. I actually reached out to about 25 people who wrote reviews of the product before purchasing as well as spoke with my doctor who researched it. He is on the board at Southwest kidney and is pretty involved with new studies. I would love to see all the info you are seeing but it seems you simply dont like supplements as a whole?

No sir, I have just been busy. Here are 10 deaths in the last 6 years from the FDA Adverse Events Reporting Service:

fis.fda.gov/sense/app/95239...

Several other studies noting deaths due to Panax Ginseng:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

rxwiki.com/news-article/chr...

koreascience.kr/article/JAK...

Specifically under the section “Adverse Reactions.”:

mskcc.org/cancer-care/integ...

lawdata.com.tw/File/PDF/J991/A04971504_416.pdf

specifically from page 3:

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Special

Nutritionals Adverse Event Monitoring System reported 114 illnesses or injuries associated with the use of ginseng-containing special nutritional products and dietary supplements on May 14, 1998. Thirteen deaths were reported. For 17 products that apparently contained only ginseng as an active ingredient, the following effects were reported: tonic-clonic seizure and two mild strokes; pruritus and jaundice; vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, and perspiration; dermatomyositis; coma; stomach pains; rash and searing pain; heart palpitations, sweating, and “felt like speeding”; scratched esophagus; nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and blurred vision; atrial fibrillation; and thrombocytopenia, necrotic tissue in bone marrow, followed by death; chest pain, feeling of constriction, heart pounding, anxious, and pale; headache, nausea, and vomiting; and abnormal uterine bleeding(49).

Hypertensive individuals who chronically take ginseng may have problems with control of blood pressure(50).

Sure it’s old data but that matters not in the herbal medicine area of “treatments” as there is no RCT (randomized controlled trials considered the gold standard on medical studies) no studies published in reputable journals and no peer reviewed studies since 2000 on Panax Ginseng. There are a couple of meta analysis or individualized studies with one or two participants or studies on rats/animals but nothing credible on this treatment and it’s danger to CKD patients. Yet there is credible evidence of deaths from Panax Ginseng from 1998-2003 and again from 2017-2022 with a spike in 2022. In sure there are deaths in between ‘03-‘17 I just can’t figure out how to load that data using the FDA Adverse Reportung Database. So 13 deaths ‘98-03 and 10 deaths ‘17-‘22. Not 15 but 23 with limited data and that’s only in the US. The UK and Europe have no system similar to the FDA database. Asia and India don’t track deaths from herbal supplements like the FDA does so who knows about those countries.

I hate to burst the bubble of MPStilwell and his accusations of me not yaveong the information because”it doesn’t exist.” It does exist it’s just hard to find and most like him won’t do the research…I’ve done it for you sir, it exists and I’d be very careful if snake-oil salesmen and their false claims of huge benefits with medical studies meant to mislead. I’ve been around both as a stage 4 patient myself and helping newly diagnosed CKD patients for 27 years, since 1996 and I’ve seen several of these miracle cures. I’ve seen some taken in and ended up in ERSD several years early needing dialysis at 30/35/40 years old when if managed correctly they most likely could have put off dialysis until they were late 50s or in their 60s but the bought the hype. Don’t you folks think if it’s such a tremendous treatment we would all know about it and tout the benefits? Why would we with the same issue not want to share such a magnificent treatment? Think seriously about the claims of this great treatment and look at the costs and see the silence or pushback of those with extended experience with CKD and ask yourself do I believe some Japanese website with limited and misleading data? Is the old saying “if it sounds to good to be true it probably is..” applicable? As always I wish you my very best in your CKD journey!

Akumian profile image
Akumian in reply toBlackknight1989

So if i understand your viewpoint in the reports is that the deaths and adverse effects are caused by ginseng?

Blackknight1989 profile image
Blackknight1989 in reply toAkumian

Correct and that is the main ingredient in this DTS therapy from Asia. It is a simple snake oil salesman offer something only to make money for the folks misleading and causing potential further health problems to those they fool and take advantage of. Too many of the folks I’ve tried to help with CKD diagnosis since 1996 have been harmed by many schemes like this that I am passionate about ensuring folks understand these are not only a money suck but potentially dangerous. I hope that helps and I wish you luck with the health concerns you are dealing with.

woweeG profile image
woweeG in reply toBlackknight1989

interesting that the death reported were ‘inconclusive’ of cause, ginseng ++ alcohol ++

could also be a confusion between panax ginseng (as quoted in the shared papers) with panax pseudoginseng, which is apparently a totally different herb. i have heard plenty advice abt herbs being harmful to weakened kidneys and liver, and these seemed to be the case.

understand your scepticism, so am i. but i’d still like to find out more, esp now i am a little relieved that the deaths are not related to DTS which is made of largely pseudoginseng or notoginseng.

Thank you for your response. My doctor disagrees with you and considering he went to school for this stuff for a while and has been a Kindy doc for 25 years, I think I I am going to trust him. I am on a few meds that require me to get a kindey panel and liver panel done every month. I have taken DTS for about 2 years now with nothing but improvements so for me, the proof is in the pudding. I understand being cautious but I bet we could find similar studies on almost every pill we take...

i may have missed as this is a long thread. what is your dosage for DTS as recommendation was 8-12 tablets a day, which quickly exhaust the pack,

could you share your doctor, i dont find many docs who take an open mind to look into alternative stuff, they mostly dont look dont care, dont recommend anything outside their standard

thanks in advance

I realize it’s been a year since you started this thread. However, on the off chance you happen to check after a year this post, this is my opinion about whatever it is you are promoting. I don’t know what you are promoting but if using I suggest you STOP. Your links are worthless as they have nothing whatsoever to do with the subject of you main body post. I am concerned as your post reminds me of some of the patients I’ve worked with in the past helping recover from acute kidney failure or end-stage liver disease claims about “miracle cures,” when in fact the described symptoms isn’t the medical breakthrough claimed, in fact it’s not even a positive medical development it is something that can instead cause harm to patients like us. Thus, I’d advise a complete stop on this potentially dangerous treatment you describe if you are still engaged in such after a year.
