Just a thought

Hello - I see there is a lot of advocating for getting outside and a bit of walking and exercise and even a bit of pottering in the garden. The last few days in the UK have been sunny and warm - ideal time for my garden but there is a big BUT - it comes with 4 legs and a tail and the bark goes right through my house and the garden is impossible. The dog wardens and the council have both had a go but she refuses to listen. Sometimes with this illness all I want is some peace and quiet but that has been taken out of my hands. Bar going around and knocking her block off and hoping a sinkhole opens up under her house I don't know what else to do - I dread summer because of this at least in the winter it is somewhat quieter. She lives in a local authority house (UK) and is breaking every law known - thanks for reading - that is a bit off my chest.

Hi Fartikins, I am a parent to two rescue dogs who unfortunately by the time I got them developed terrible manners, including manic barking. My one neighbor hates my dogs and has threatened me and also my other neighbor who also has a small barking dog. People have to understand that we try to monitor their behavior and not let them bark non-stop. But sometimes, especially the oldest one who is 15 and has doggie dementia, our yelling only escalates their behavior. I have tried to talk to the B*+ch behind us all and there is no getting her to understand. Everyone else in the neighborhood has dogs and so they get it.

All I can say is try talking to her directly.

Hello - I will have to talk direct -ours is such a pleasant neighbourhood and I would not like to cause any animosity - my friend says to get the largest bone you can find and chuck it over the fence - it should keep him quiet for an hour.

PLEASE, do not toss anything over the fence, especially a bone which can cause a lot of damage to the dog if chips come off. Maybe see if you can befriend the doggo through the fence. May not work. But you deserve some peace. Check your local laws about dog barking. Here it is after 15 minutes of non-stop barking, it becomes an offence. I never let my dogs bark for that long. They drive me nuts too! I aways had basset hounds before she moved in. Think the little ones are loud. My 3 houndies used to have chorus practice in the back yard. Our postman used to love to get them going by howling as he passed. No one had ever complained about dogs in the neighborhood until she came along, and I have been here 20 years.

I assume it's not your dog. Get noise blocking headphones and listen to some music. Barking dogs can be annoying but most headphones work. Best to you.....

I totally hear you, and before I chip in I would like to say I have a rescue dog and have had dogs for lots of years. I suffer with CKD, NAFLD, circulation issues and fibromyalgia and in my past life was an athlete and athletics coach. Ive just been away for 2 days, just one overnight stop and I walked through some gardens yesterday and today I’m exhausted and can hardly move.

We’ve recently had new neighbours, lovely people. They have a springer who has separation anxiety and a very loud bark. We live in a semi detached house and every time the springer next door is left alone we have constant barking. Never for longer than 4 hours but usually for 4 or 5 times a week.

I have lived in this place for 40 plus years …. Why should I have to be the one to change how I live in my house? M6 back living room has always been my haven of peace. The last thing I need when sensitised and in pain is the radio on to mask a constantly barking dog. I already spoke gently with the neighbour and she knows the issue and just said “well it’s not for long” but a few hours at a time a few times a week is really starting to make me go crazy.

I would even help her out and socialise my dog with hers and let her dog come round if need be but leaving a barking dog is just not on in my book.

She should take you up on that offer of help it's a brilliant idea. Silly woman.

Thanks for your reply. I also have had dogs in the past and they were never allowed to bark - especially outside. They were English pointers - I cannot believe how selfish some people are especially when you are dealing with an illness - that really takes it out of you.

I have a similar problem. My next door dogs are nasty barkers. They run right down to the fence and stand there barking and barking looking right at you. I can be sitting reading and they fly down to the fence and bark and bark. No stopping them. Infuriates me because people do not train their dogs. I have had dogs and had a barker and helped him not to be a nuisance barker. My neighbor knows her dogs are a nuisance and just ignores the situation. I wish she would put up a barrier so the dogs can not come down to where my patio is located. They are only 10 feet from me.
