Hi! I'm getting transplanted at the end of March and I have a distended belly with lots of bloating. I'm wondering if any of you saw less bloating after your surgery? Did you lose weight? A friend of mine was transplanted last month and he said he dropped 20 lbs. Let me know. Thanks!
Attached is some kidney-inspired art. It is with great gratitude that I say my husband is my kidney donor. Here are our two kidneys... ♥

The distended belly may be water retention....that is where my extra water sits...never in my feet or hands...but sometimes in my face too....Best Wishes for your transplant !!...After your surgery and things settle down your new kidney should start to remove the extra water.
Hi PurpleKatisha - Congrats on the upcoming transplant. That is wonderful news! I experienced bloating for years before transplant. I had a preemptive tx and did not have dialysis. No bloating post transplant (except when drinking milk!) I did gain a few pounds after transplant because so many restrictions were lifted. My weight gain was nothing major and honestly I was to the point where I needed the pounds. Everyone is different. …Congrats again! Wishing you the best.
Congratulations! My husband also donated a kidney to me. It is very special. I was fortunate to have a pre-emptive kidney transplant without being on dialysis. I didn’t experience bloating. There was weight loss, but after the transplant when the eating restrictions were lifted, I did gain some weight. Best wishes for a successful recovery!
Best wishes for a fantastic transplant!!!I had a transplant from a 16 year old deceased donor in 1999. Hope you will have the same success that I have had - 22+ years post transplant.
No bloating post transplant.
We are all different. You may have some bloating right after surgery. It is major surgery, so let yourself heal. After a couple weeks make sure you start walking. At first just walk around the block and gradually increase it. I have gained weight, like so many others, due to food restrictions being lifted. Ha, ha... Life is good!
Make sure you report any problems or issues to your transplant coordinator once you are home. I had my immunosuppressant med dose changed several times that first year. Any problems I had were all due to a dose that was too high for me.
Make sure you let us know how you are doing when you have your transplant.
Congrats on the transplant! I'm in the process now of finding a donor for transplant. No dialysis yet, no bloating. I had lost a lot of weight and just recently gained some back. My last appt showed BP was higher, high potassium, low iron, GFR went from 15 3 months ago to 10 recently & then rechecked a week later at 11. So, not sure if that drop means I'm starting to retain water and thus extra pounds? It's nice to hear all the positive stories on here on how nice it is after transplant as I often wonder if life can be more normal or not. I hope & pray that my story will be of success as well.
