Hello, I’ve been a CKD patient for many years. For some strange reason my creatinine has gone way up. Any secret sauce to lower it?

If you haven't changed your diet to mostly (or all) plant-based, that would be a good thing to explore. Many studies say this diet is very helpful.

You would actually be better off focusing on reducing BUN and phosphate and potassium if these are too high. If you can get them under control then that's a sign of improved kidney health. Creatinine isn't even toxic. It's just an easy marker for the labs to read and gives a cheap estimation of remaining kidney function. But health wise it's not the one to focus on in isolation. Keep as well as you can do and as hydrated as possible without retaining fluid. Reducing meat intake for me saw a drop in everything within a couple of weeks but it was too late for me as I was down to egfr of single figures. Have you spoken to your doctor or renal dietician?

Thanks for the informative email, it was very helpful. I just reached a renal dietitian.

Blessings to your health.

I have learned you have to fight with this disease, to get the care you need. I have been a vegetarian 20 years, so the meat thing was not an issue. A plant-based diet is the usual recommendation and that is what I follow. I have raised my GFRs from the initial diagnosis, I fought to get to a nutritionist, and I read up on everything.

Glad you reached a renal dietician. My hospital/health care has a regular dietician, but not a renal specialist. That is my next step, although I have become well-informed by obsessively reading on the web.

Kidney disease is all about diet. Good Luck!

The secret sauce would be a vegetarian/plant-based sauce like low sodium tomato sauce, or cauliflower puree since you asked LOL. Seriously though, changing your diet will help and increasing your water consumption will also benefit you. I drink 3/4 gallon of water per day. A 5 gallon bottle per week. It has helped clear the blood out of my urine as well as crystals.

Best of luck to you. I see you are already planning to see a dietician so I won't suggest that I'm sure it will be a big help.

Good morning, I’m experiencing itching, uncontrollable. At stage 4 is this a sign of something?
