I posted here the other day and people were so helpful I’ve decided to ask another question. I live in a rural town in the US. My Nephrologist at our local office says they can do the biopsy but my friends and family are all saying I should travel to the city to get it done. Is this necessary? Are there questions I should ask to know if it’s fine to get it done locally? I thought of asking “ how frequently do you do these” or “how many have you done”? But I’m not sure what a good answer is for either of these. Thank you in advance!

Where to do biopsy
I've included an article for you. The article does state that it is usually done in the hospital. A lot depends on the patient. You will be sedated and that is enough of a reason to have handy all the facilities that you would find in a hospital or a surgical center. My cardiologist would never approve of my having any medical procedure done in a doctor's office. I get clearance from both my cardiologist and nephrologist prior to any medical procedure. In fact, I have one coming up next month and my appointment for clearance with my cardiologist is tomorrow.
Surely someone can drive you to the hospital and wait for you and take you home.
Best of luck.

This is great. Thank you so much!
I would ask your nephrologist why he/she wants to do a biopsy, what they suspect may be the problem, and would it change the course of treatment either way. I would definitely want it done in the hospital if it were me.
